Thats what GOD did. According to the story, Adam and Eve ate a piece of fruit, and were then condemned to death (because the punishment of sin is death). Along with their billions and billions of children, who all died because of the original sin.

All of this, because of a piece of fruit. How is that fair? I thought the christian god was supposed to be forgiving.

What I can remember, they didnt die right away, but since they were thrown out of the garden of eden, they lost their immortality.

Adam and Eve sinned DELIBERATELY. They were perfect - which means it wasn't a mistake. It wasn't that they stumbled and accidentally ate the forbidden fruit.

It was a conscious and intentional act of disobedience to God. It was because Eve listened to Satan tell her that God was trying to deprive them of something. That if she ate the fruit she would "become like God" able to determine for herself what was good and what was bad.

It was an act of rebellion. Reflecting the attitude of Satan who felt that God was not deserving of the worship of His creation.

it was NOT just that they ate a piece of fruit.

In all of this Satan and the erring couple raised a question that could not be answered by "just forgiving" them. Te questioned God's right to rule, His right to set the standard as to what is right and what is wrong.

If he had just forgiven them then the question would still remain.

If he had destroyed them and started over then the angels in heaven who witnessed this event would also question.

He had to allow time for Satan to prove his claim... and fail miserably... so that when Jesus came as a ransom and when God's Kingdom was brought to rule... there would be no room to again question whether God's way is the right way.

God IMMEDIATELY upon the sin in the Garden formed the solution and made the way out for the human family. The first scripture in the BIble lays out the theme of the entire body of scripture.

Genesis 3:15 which states that the seed of the serpent (all those who follow Satan) will be bruised in the head by the seed of the woman (Christ) - this head bruise representing the final end (death) of the devil and all who choose his way over Gods.

adam and eve werent killed. They were punished, yes, but not killed.
Yes God is forgiving, i do suppose he was very hard on them though.
It was because they were tempted by the devil, in a way they chose the devil over God. Thats why they were punished so badly. they chose wrong over right...
After God sent the flood and there was the whole thing with Noahs Ark, so many people died,God promised that he would never do something like that again. So yes, he is much more forgiving now if you are truly sorry.
Hope this helps :)

Sadly, I know some parents who would be happy if their children voluntarily ate fruit. However, I think it might be the parents' fault for not properly introducing fruit and veggies.

Maybe I'm recalling the story incorrectly, but didn't God just banish Adam and Eve from the garden? If God had killed them, then (assuming the story is accurate) I don't think any of us would be here now.

Eve didn't eat fruit from a tree that caused the downfall of man. It had nothing to do with "fruit". No, I wouldn't kill my kids for eating fruit. Adam and Eve were both forgiven for defaulting on a planet of rebellion. However, they did lose their immortality. They were suppose to be the shining example to mankind for all eternity of the perfect earth family.

Okay, say you had a kid and warned them that this fruit was poisonous and they'd get really sick if they ate it. You didn't want them to get sick so you told them not to eat it. If your kid disobeys you and eats it, are you the cause of your kid getting sick?
Adam and Eve's own actions condemned them. God told them what was right and what was wrong, and He let them choose. They chose what was wrong and so condemned themselves.

The bible was written by a bunch of men who were living in a violent culture, and they came up with a violent parable.
