There is a cat in my neighborhood that has adopted me. It constantly hangs around my house and tries to get in. It has very patchy fur and is very lean. As much as I want to let it in, I already have a cat and I don't want her to get sick. I believe it may be my neighbors cat. The cat is sick. I have put a collar on it with a note stating to call me if this is your cat. Nobody has called.

I am contemplating putting another note on it stating I intend to turn it into the SPCA if nobody claims it.

What would you do in such a situation?

I do intend to adopt it if nobody does claim it or want it from the SPCA. However, I really want to know who the owner is so I can tear them a new one and have a name to give to the SPCA

Take it to the SPCA so they can evaluate the cat. Doesn't sound like it's in good condition. That's not to say that the SPCA can't get it into better shape.

It's obvious the cat has not been taken care of. The cat most likely has been on it's own. Also sounds like it had a former owner. It's tell you .... it wants to come into your house. If it were ferral it wouldn't attempt to "want" to come into your house.

You've made an attempt to find the owner with no response. You've done your job in that department. Would suggest taking it to SPCA and tell them, after cat has been checked, and in better shape to be adopted, you would like to take the cat home so it can start enjoying the good life.

Sounds like cat has been left behind with former owners to fend for it self. It might have just as well been thrown out a car window. It's sad that animals have to go through the abuse they do, because the "idiots" of this world are too lazy and don't give a tinckers damn what happens to such unfortunate animals.

Mr. or Ms. "Lost and Found" came to the right house. I have always thought that "things happen for a reason." Guess you have been picked for that reason. Of course it's up to you what you decide to do.

Sure don't mean for you to feel guilty if you can't take the cat in. A side from that of course, your name is already on "your" little "Lost and Found."

Wouldn't try any more to find so called owners. They don't want the cat, by the looks of things or shape it's in. The cat doesn't deserve further abuse. SPCA is the answer to your "new" little kitty.

Good Luck

Well actually I was in this situation not too long ago and for a month I fed the cat but then it kept hanging around and trying to come in my house so finally I called SPCA. It was better for the cat because since winter is coming around, the cat would probably have froze to death. So I suggest you call the SPCA.

Call the SPCA now, and get the poor kitty some medical attention and food. Obviously, if it has owners, they are not taking care of it. Turn it over to the SPCA so it can have a chance of finding a safe home.

The owners may have moved and the cat ran away and came back to it's old neighborhood. That happened to me! I moved 7 houses down the street and every time I brought my cat to my new house, he'd run away back to where I lived before!

Feed the cat and take care of it. If you turn it into the SPCA, they may put it to sleep!

Let the SPCA know, or if you can keep it and take it to the vet to get checked out I would do that. There are already so many SPCA animals.

Next time you see it, bring it to the SPCA. Somehow... You don't want to risk you or your cat getting sick and/or injured. If you're not quite sure about picking it up yourself, and bringing it in your car, call the SPCA. I'm sure they'd gladly get it from you. Hope this helps! ♥

Don't let your cat outside to roam unsupervised, then you will not have to worry about it. Simple solution. If you are letting your cats roam and go onto other peoples property to poop and destroy things..you are the problem. Yes, your neighbor does sound a little crazy and it would be horrible if she harms any cats..but YOU need to take some responsibility for your OWN cats and keep them inside if you don't want them in danger. Outdoor cats are exposed to all sorts of dangers (including psychos like your neighbor) that is why cats are best as INDOOR pets. If you let them outside there are certain risks you are taking with their lives. IF you are not willing to risk their lives and have them end up dead..then DON'T LET THEM OUT. It is not rocket science. While it is illegal for her to poison cats..it is NOT illegal for her to trap them. She can just claim she thought they were strays and take them to any pound and they would be accepted. Unless your cats are microchipped, you will probably not get them back.

It depends on if you want to keep it.

If so you should go to the vet before taking it in. See if the sickness is treatable...if its contagous. If it isnt treatable or the cat will make your cat sick then you should give it to the SPCA.
