I often use my credit card to get points for rewards, cash back and many other stuff. But is using credit cards really slower than paying with cash?

You're asking which is faster... as if you're trying to save SECONDS of your life.

I am a cashier at Old Navy - cash and credit transactions basically take the same amount of time to complete. A smart cashier will bag your items as the credit card is processing and you sign the electronic card reader. This keeps the line moving and customers on their way quicker.

The time it takes to process the credit card is probably less than the time it takes you to dig through your wallet to pull out bills and count them, & count the change, and then the cashier will re-count your money before processing the transaction, and then the cashier has to issue change (if applicable).

A cashier can't handle money and bag items at the same time, so I guess that means credit card transactions are a bit quicker. But who really cares, as long as you're not paying with a check ... THAT is slow.

A cash transaction is a little faster, but since most credit cards are verified electronically, the extra time isn't much. It used to take a lot longer when a store actually had to make a phone call if the transaction was large.

The verification time is a squeak slower than opening the drawer for raw cash. and some people cannot make change to save themselves.

However, I almost always buy gas at the pump .. walking in takes time.

Yes.
You are paying twice.
First paying with a credit card.
Then paying the credit card.
Also
When you hand the cashier the money, she/he hands you your change and you leave.
When you use a card, you swipe it, wait, sign a paper, hand it back and leave.
That is too many things to do.
