Good for them. The only reason that scenario has work out amiably is that your Dad is a TRUE atheist. There is a big difference between your dads atheism and the atheists on R and S. The atheists on R &S do their best to eradicate christianity and have a real hate for something that they claim does not exist. How can you hate something that isn't there? Yet that is exactly what the Atheists on R&S are doing . Just talking out of both sides of their mouths.

One of my best friends mother is Christian and her father is Atheist and they don't have any problems. My mom is Baptist and my dad is Catholic and they have been married for 18 years now. Why people assume certain religions can't marry or that christians can't marry atheists is beyond me.

I'm an atheist married to a christian and we have a great relationship and we will even talk about religion from time to time but it certainly isn't the focus of our relationship.

I've never heard anybody say that. Atheist are no different than anyone else. They don't believe in God Christians do. I can live with that.

Does your dad respond to her in the manner that the atheist do here? If not then no comparison. When your mom comes home from church and wants to talk about what was said, does your dad tell her to shut up and stop talking about that fairy tale rubbish. If not then yes, they can live together.

It did not work for me. I went to church and kept my mouth shut about it around my husband. I could not display any pictures depicting religion, or displaying prayers or Bible verses. I had to keep my Bible in the drawer--and if my church friends came over, he would leave.

He was angrier with me for being a Christian than I was for him being an atheist..

THat's not to say that it is the same for everyone: Charles Darwin himself was married to a very devoted Christian woman. He was very distraught on his deathbed, I read, because he knew that once he died, he would never see her again, and he really loved her.

Good for your parents, but they belong to a minority. That kind of relationship is normally doomed from the start. The Christian part have trouble not to impose his/hers religion on the other part.

Most of my friends and workmates are Christian and they know I'm atheist. We simply respect each others beliefs and get along fine with it.
