I have a 3 yr old daughter and 2 yr old son who both still use pacifiers.
Not something I had wanted to do as a mother, but for my own sanity for naptimes, car rides and bedtime I chose to let them keep theirs.
I never intended to keep a pacifier over a year old... and if I had to do it over again, It would have probably been easier to dispose of it while my kids were younger and less attached.
For now, I have told my daughter that when her brother turns officially two (In January) we will have a going away party for both of their pacis. (Oh, boy I'm SOOO looking forward to it..lol.. sleepless nights..the crying..)
I have tried to keep it from my daughter before, but having a younger brother she just takes his paci's. (even though they are different brands).
I figure it will be easier on all of us if they both give it up together.

Out of four children, I only have one that used a pacifier and he held onto it for dear life until he was 3 yrs old when, on his first big boy trip to the dentist, she gave him a prize in exchange for all of his pacifiers (as if I hadn't tried that a thousand times already). My youngest child is now 3 yrs old and is a thumbsucker which I'm finding to be a much more challenging dilemma because, unlike the pacifier, I can't mysteriously loose her thumb.

My first son gave his up pacifier about after 4- 5 months I believe and my second son never really wanted it. He probably used it less than a month.

My son gave up his pacifier at about 4 months old. He just didn't need it after that.

I just got him off the pacifier last week. He is 1 so me and husband think should let him kick the habit. He wasn't very depend ant on it but needs it only when he sleeps as it make him sleep better. It took us 1 week before he is finally able to fall asleep without it. At first its hard a little crying every time before bed and took him an hour before he was able to sleep.
But whatever it is, we must help them to kick the habit, just hang in there ,don't give in and eventually he will be able to give it up.

My daughter is 21 months and still uses it for naptime and bedtime only. I read in a baby sleep book that it does not affect teeth formation until about 4. Though I don't think we'll wait until 4, sleep is very important to all of us, so we'll try giving it up...sometime before then.

My first born, son, took one until about three months and gave it up on his own. My second, daughter, never took one past about 5 weeks and my last, daughter, would take it now and then until around 9 weeks.

I never used pacifiers, sorry. Check with your dentist as he would know when tooth formation might be affected.

My son had his two 5 years old. I had try-ed every thing. I had to cut each and every one that I found, and some how he always found another one. I had to clean the hole house and my mothers and in-laws to get read of them. I had to them let him take is blanket every where but when he got to school and no one Elsa had a blanked he left it at home them.
