I would personally not do that to a Oak piece, but you can...If you are inexperienced in faux finishing then go to Home Depot and they have a section dedicated to it. You can learn how to get the affect you want without having to pay someone like me.

Is is solid Oak, or is it a veneer. Does it have fake wood panels?

If it is all solid Oak, you can sand it down and restain it.

If it has veneer, you can still sand it down, but you will have to be very careful.

If it has fake wood panels, you will not get good results.

If it's real oak, I wouldn't do anything to it. You could end up with a big mess.
