Sure! If the class in question is comparative religion, and not an actual course that is trying to teach you that one particular religion is true, I'd think you'd be more likely to get a fair treatment of all religions from an atheist than from somebody who actually believes in one of the religions being discussed and not any of the others.

Sure, if it about world religions. If you think about it, most teachers probably subscribe to a religion and teach the others so why not an atheist.

It depends on what level you want to teach. A religion teacher in grade school and high school usually has to be a part of the religious faith they are teaching. The reason for that is because you are also guiding the children along in that faith as a role model of how to live that faith, not just as an educator.

If you're thinking of college, you do not have to be any faith in many cases.

of course they can,and in a way i think they can give the students more out of it if they are not religious themselves

because when students have questions and then the teacher may be from a different religion and not wanting to go into thise subjects

so yes atheists can teach religion

My humble opinion: religion has nothing to do with spirituality, therefore, yes the teacher can have any, or lack of, spiritual path they want and still teach about religions.

I am a very spiritual person, but am not in any mainstream religion. The earth is my church and Nature is my God(dess).
Yet, I know more about the Christian Bible than most Christians.

Yeah, I'm gonna be a teacher, I was thinking to go into the fields of Theology or evolutionary theory, can't make up my mind, and I'm an atheist...so I would think I could, if not, I can use the Christian persecution card...^_^

Can an English teacher not be a writer?

You don't have to be part of something to teach it. I doubt my AP US history teacher witnessed the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Why not? All they are going to do is teach on the different religions and their history. Anyone with the right education can do that.

Yes. They can even offer non-biased views. In fact, I believe Atheists would make better religious teachers, on the basis that they can offer both views.
