Every time I read a Q like this I start in on why I feel so negative about a sport I once would fight someone if they had a bad thing to say about it. I'm not sure what you read over there because it is deleted now but what is wrong with NA$CAR has nothing to do with being a athlete or not it is the way it is run now by a idiot that has destroyed everything his Grandfather and Father spent there lives building. That other athlete crap is just that. We all know this so pay that person no mind

The real answer is there are many people who have looked at a Nascar race for 5 or 10 minutes thinking it was just cars going around in a circle so they didn't like it.

The same people read of and see proof of millions of Nascar fans. They see several television shows and sports sections covering Nascar.

They are faced with a dilemma, either they are too ignorant to get what Nascar racing is or it is not a sport, just something rednecks like cause they are dumb.

The ignorant obviously pick the second answer

Because it is easy to bash instead of actually do your homework and informa yourself about what the sport is about.

I use to think the same think about old chubby people swinging a club until I tried. Golf is probably the most techical sport but I wouldn't figure it out without trying.

Have some of these people get in a car and try to stay within inches of the other car to draft. F1 don't know how to do that.

I drove a nascar at Lowes Motor Speedway and you have to fight the car on the straightways because of it's tendency to turn right.

I think a lot of it comes from people who have never been to a race. Wether it's NASCAR or Top Fuel & Funny cars, it's one of those things that you have to see it up close & in person. I grew up with drag racing it's a rush you have to experience for yourself. Then my 1st Cup race was Bristol....what an experience...when those cars go by, the ground shakes under your feet & your innards shake. To me, it's not something words or TV can even come close to what it's really about. It's loud, lots of rubber, the smell of the fuel, seeing those cars 3 sometimes 4 wide & you have to wonder how'd they do that. There's not a whole lot of room...one guy makes a twitch n all h*ll breaks loose. My suggestion to these people is please go to a race...then if you don't like it...leave all of us that do alone. Those drivers are in the car with temps exceeding 100+ degrees not to mention the heat from the engine, exhaust & brakes, & all the fumes. All straped in, their heads basically locked in place, hardly any leg room , driving 2-4 hours in that position. Nascar drivers are most definately athletes, I could go on with this, but I think I've pretty much covered all the bases. 1 thing that would help....the need for speed, there's nothing like it. Meet lots of people from everywhere , make friendships that last, & 100+ thousand fans that all get along, nobody gets shot, stabbed, beaten or robbed. I have to agree with Wedge & Ed P on this one.

Gotta agree with Ed P. on this one, people tend to think that since they drive a car every day that it's the same as racing a car. Never mind driving a race car at 150 mph + for 300-600 miles is not the same as driving a street car the same distance, sh*t after 500 miles (which is about the distance from my parents house in NJ to Durham,NC, and I still have 200 miles after that to get home) I'm pretty beat and my breaks are a lot longer than 15 seconds, and the car's not 140 degrees inside either.

Because they don't know a thing about it. They look at NASCAR and they see: "Rednecks driving in a left circle." We look at it and we see: athletes controlling a machine going at 200+ MPH that could, with one slight mistake, go head first into the wall, surrounded by 42 other athletes doing the same thing.

It IS a sport, it is INTENSLY physical, and I would love to see any naysayer take the place of a NASCAR driver for one lap. I don't think any of them would get out of the car with dry britches.

It's like this my friend, it's called Motorsports. Motorsports consist of Boat racing, Motorcycle Racing, Monster trucks, Snowmobile racing, Motocross racing, Drag racing, and many other types of Motorsports. Can all of those be done without considering any of them sports? It's extremely competitive with usually no waiting betwen "plays" A lot of people get offended by the complicated nature of Motorsports, because the object (the motorized driven vehicle) is much more technically intricate than a ball or a puck.

I will buy a race ticket for anyone who hates NASCAR. In my experience, 100% of the time, when people who bash NASCAR go to a live race, they are instantly hooked.

In my circle of friends I was rentlessley bashed for liking NASCAR, but once all thoes haters went to a live race, they thought it was awesome. Who cares what they say about it - turn the other cheek.

Because Nascar is too regulated too many rules you should be able to use what ever engine you want take the restrictor plates off and do some real racing this is why people hate it.
also add some more road couses it get boring going left all the time.
