From what i know Judy is right. Stress, tension and anxiety. The scapula is on your back, upper shoulder. Like if i could draw a line it would go through you (front to back) right through your pectoral or mammary gland right through the center of your scapula. This particular muscle is comprised of both hard and soft muscle. The soft muscles underneath are the connector muscles that hold it there, the hard muscles repsonsible for movement; expansion and contraction. Repetitive motion like working on an assembly line, sitting at a desk for long hours, reading writing or typing causes the muscles to bind as opposed to contracting and expanding they simply remain in the contracted state thus forming knots. A hot soak in the tub in epsom salt helps, go to a masseuse weekly or at least monthly helps and while working do some form of stretching. Stretching before you get out of bed goes a long way to enhance your natural energy before you start your day. When was the last time you went out and had some fun excersise? Like a game of volleyball with freinds or swimming and playing in the water. The chief reason we grow old is because we stop having fun and tackle the adult world with a fierce tenacity. Sometimes we forget that having fun is very healthy.
Lack of water helps cause physical stress, lack of vitamins, coffee and white sugars are all culprits of physical distress.

If you are having a muscle spasm, there are several ways to treat it.

1. Valium, as a mild muscle relaxant. To relieve the spasm.
Can not drive a car or operate machinery if you go with this option. If the problem comes back, you got to take the Valium again.

2. Trigger point injection. There is usually one spot that starts the spasm, and they can stick it with a needle and inject some long acting local anesthetic. That breaks the spasm and prevents it from coming back for a day or so. Hopefully by then the trigger point will have calmed down and you have no further problems. Hurts like hell but you can drive a car immediately after. If the pain comes back, you will need another injection.

3. TENS units. Two electrodes are placed over the muscle that is spasming and you dial it up to the point the spasm and pain stops. You can drive a car, it has just a slight amount of discomfort, no where near as bad as the muscle spasm.
You can keep the TENS unit and use it in the future if the spasm comes back.

4. Exercise. As with any "cramp" you can work out the spasm by working the muscle. No complications with this other than the discomfort of working it out. But once you did it, you know how to do it and the second you feel a spasm coming on in the future, you can start fixing it before it gets bad.

5. Shut up and suffer like a man.

The phenomenon of muscle knots is not uncommon. Essentially, muscle knots are sections within the various muscles of the body that have constricted and create pain that is consistent. The condition is common enough to merit the application of a scientific name, which is myofascial trigger points. While there is not currently a definitive medical explanation as to why muscle knots form, several theories are undergoing testing. Here is some information about the nature of the muscle knot, as well as some of the treatment methods that are in use today.

The generally accepted answer to why muscle knots form is that something triggers a reaction where the muscle never relaxes. In effect, the muscle is always in a state where it appears to be actively rather than passively in use. This is unusual, since even with such activities as weight lifting, running, or any type of heavy lifting the muscle goes through a series of off and on cycles. The constant active condition of the muscle leads to muscle spasms, which in turn acts as the root cause the muscle knot.

You are young to have what I am suggesting, but type in the search engine of your computer, acid reflux. It could be caused by something you ate that is too spicy or greasy. Tell your parents if you feel this way tomorrow or when you read this. Hopefully, it is just a food that did not agree with you. Being nervous will make it feel worse, so try and relax and drink some water to see if that will help. Could be constipation too. I am not a Dr., just an old grandma! Hope you feel better soon. Pain is scary.
