if you abandon belief in a deity altogether you have, to many, committed an unforgivable act?

"I believe in magic tablets and that I'll play my uncle in volleyball in the clouds" Oh, that's his right.

"I believe that I haven't reached level 7 yet on my pre-post clear" Oh, that's his right.

"I don't believe in any of it". SINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's your right not to believe. I wouldn't label you or start name calling. I am sorry if others do.

I dont really care what other people believe as long as they respect what I believe.

I dont have an issue with atheists. I have an issue with atheists that think they are better or smarter or wiser than me because of their non belief.
But I am mormon, so I also have issue with those that think they are better or more spiritual or wiser than me because of their beliefs.

It also is annoying when people tell me what it is, as a mormon, I believe. Even when you tell them they are wrong they still insist they know better then me about what it is I believe.
Some atheists and other christians have done this on here but most in real life dont. Most people in general dont have a clue what other peoples religions are.

I catch all sorts of crap for what I believe, and I do believe in God, Christ, etc. I don't send hatemail to others unless they are truley just way off the base. I don't antagonize the AMs the VTs, but I can count on at least one e-mail that is just hateful, because I believe in a Goddess to. I understand, and I assume it is because they are not as open minded as they claim to be. Usually though they are fundamentalist 99.9% of the time.

I feel you it's like being theist driven is a form of social conforming peer pressure. Since I became atheist my mother, a few other family members and some friends want me to believe if anything bad happens too me, me being atheist is the only cause. I strongly believe that somethings are just bound to happen to a person and it is how we deal with them that strengthen us. I mean I was atheist when I was molested as a child, I wasn't atheist when I lost a few people that meant the world to me and I wasn't atheist when I was diagnosised with severe eye problems. As I look back I know those things would have happened to me regardless of my belief system and I chose to deal with them.

Because religion preaches that in order to reach the kingdom of heaven one must believe in God. It is therefore assumed that those who don't are doomed. Not necessarily my thoughts, but there you have it.
