You can just use a dab of butter, margarine, or crisco and spread it with wax paper.

Actually just toss the yam fries in a plastic ziploc with some oil in it to coat them and then put them on the baking sheet and bake.

Mmmmmmmm go for the butter baby!
My kids hate cooked fries in the oven unless I smear the bottom of the tray with butter. Just unwrap part of the stick and smear it like you were painting with butter. It'll make them nice and crispy too and deeeelicious.
