my 4.5 month old daughter all of the sudden has started getting solid poop, not hard poop but round and firm, isn't she to young to have that kind of poop. She eats solid food already, rice cereal 3 times a day at 1.5 ounces and bananas, pears and peas, about 1.5 tablespoons for breakfast lunch and dinners, she is still breast fed as well. Is she getting to much of something or is this normal, my ped. told me to give her diluted appl or prune juice , but she is to little for that.

it's normal when they are on solids, if you're worried about feeding her diluted apple or prune and worried that she might be getting constipated give her cooled boiled water

as a mother...........do not worry..she is ok but I would follow your child's dr request. Dilute the juice as the acid in them may cause diaper rash. I think she may need more water and that is why her "poop" can changed. You could also make sure you drink Gatorade to make sure that the Electrlyes balane is not disruptive, or you can give gatorade to your daughter via a bottle. Really.......its ok...you do not have to do it forever, but anytime my daughter feels poorly the Gatorade helps. The bananas and Rice cereal is fine, You may want to cut down on the peas and pears for a short time. and continue to watch for changes. You are a very observate mother to observe the changes in you daughters "Poop". Now you just need to lear to listen to the advise. it is normal, she is ok but the dr advised diluted Juice......try it....that is not going to make her Fat.

It's normal for them to have formed poop once they start eating solids. As long as she's not constipated it's ok. I didn't start mine on solids until they were 6 months old because breastmilk is really all they need for the first 6 months.

You may want to give undiluted prune juice......as juice is natural, there are no side effects except for the emptying of the bowels........About 1/4 -1/2 of a normal bottle will usually do it.

I had to give my daughter prune juice many times in her first year, it will not hurt her.

Also, you may need to add water to her diet as solid poops may be a sign of insufficient water.

as with all things, if you are uncertain, consult your physician for confirmation of this advice.

try feeding a little less cereal and a little more breast milk (if possible) or go with your ped suggestion and try the diluted juice. your baby is never really too little for juice its just that you dont want her getting juice instead of real food or milk but it sounds like she might be a little constipated. when they are that age its hard to manage solids vs liquids and they get dehydrated easily so just try to get more liquids in her.
hope this helps.

She sounds like she's constipated so she has hard stools and if the Pediatrician said to give her the prune juice or apple juice that would be wise. . . it'll help her to move her bowels. He/she has a degree in that field for a reason.

she is alright, giver her some apple juice with water, she isnt too little. It will soften her up a bit. Dont give her too much though cause then you will have major issues!

She's fine. Very normal. As long as she isn't constipated, why change her diet? It's good for her.
