I'm doing a project for a class and I need to insert a video into a powerpoint presentation. I already have the video downloaded from youtube onto my desktop, but I need to convert it to a file type that powerpoint can recognize.

I tried using the Super program but I couldn't figure it out.
Can somebody please tell me a simple way to convert the video?

I used the sites you provided me, and they worked great on converting the files. However, they open up in my media player...how do I get them to open in my powerpoint?

I go to insert, movie, from file....but where is it saved??

Hi,

PowerPoint never "embeds" video. PowerPoint creates a shape and plays the video inside the shape, but the video itself is played from wherever the file was located when you created the link. In your case, the video file is on your desktop, since that is where you put it when you downloaded.

If you move or re-name the video file then it won't play because PowerPoint won't be able to find it.

Likewise, if you move the presentation to another computer then the link will break and it won't play.

The solution is to create your presentation, then use the FILE menu and choose SAVE AS and select POWERPOINT PACKAGE. This makes a new folder and copies the media into the folder along with a copy of your presentation with the correct links so you can distribute the entire folder and everything will just work. (This feature is Macintosh only).
