I used to when they were young and new because of allergies, but now I have adjusted to them, and they don't need a bath as often. I can get by with once a year now, but before I had to do it weekly, then every other week, then monthly. I can tell it it is bath time because my throat starts to close. I had allergy testing done before getting cats, and they came back negative, but since mine is a respiratory allergy, it didn't show up in tests. My doctor said that can happen.

So yes, you can wash your cat if you like, but not often as it will dry out their skin. Only use a mild cat shampoo (not the allergy or flea versions), and keep their ears and face dry. They can get a nasty infection if water gets in the ears. Also, if the cat has long hair or dense fur, always brush them before the bath and don't brush them again until fully dry. never run the cat with a towel, just snuggle them with the towel and pat.

The first time my two cats came home, they got a bath. I highly suggest you bathe a new pet. In my experience, they were always a little greasy from many hands and being in such a small space.

Some cats do need baths though. Some just never learn to groom properly. When I brought my male home when he was 4 months old, he was stinky and never groomed. He was taken away from his litter too young, and never learned how to properly care for himself. He only started to groom after about a month of my older female cat tackling and grooming him herself. She would hold him down and not let him up until every inch had been properly groomed. It was funny watching him try to groom himself and he was terrible at it, but the female tought him how and it does a great job on his own now.

It's ALL up to you. I do periodically, but I clip my kitty's nails first and bath him in a shampoo for pets (Veterinary Formula). Most cat's won't appreciate a bath though. Do not bathe a kitten that is still nursing, he mommy could reject he new fresh and so clean kitten because of the smell change.

Note on clipping: If you have never clipped a cat's nails before, please have this done professionally the first time and learn how to do this carefully from them. Thier flesh grows into thier nails if cut incorrectly to lead to bleeding.

Have fun, take pics, they look hilarious when wet.

If you want to get them used to having baths now is the time. I have cats 12, 14, and 16 who have been with me since kittenhood and never had a bath and they do go out into my garden all year long.

If a kitten has diarrhea then it may need a bath to help it clean up.

Dogs need regular baths to make them acceptable in human company. That's one chore you don't have to do with a cat.

I wash my kitten every so often. Partly because he has a bad tendancy to get poop on himself and partly since we go for walks every night so he goes outside quite a bit. He doesn't like it but he deal with it. If my boyfriend tries to give him a bath, then he freams and ends up injuring someone.

Should not be necessary unless there are unusual circumstances. Early in life their mother should be keeping them clean. As they grow they will learn to wash themselves. Cats rarely if ever need to be washed.

Only if they have managed to get nice and dirty somehow and if you don't mind losing an arm or two...

It shouldn't be necessary unless they have gotten into something.
