a root of a plant

Horseradish is a member of the mustard family (sharing lineage with its gentler cousins, kale, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts and the common radish) and is cultivated for its thick, fleshy white roots.

The bite and aroma of the horseradish root are almost absent until it is grated or ground.

Horseradish is a root, a member of the radish family. If you've eaten radishes, you know they are quite nippy. Horseradish is very, very spicy and pungent. The root is ground up and used as a condiment. Sometimes a bit of vinegar is added or it is made into a milder, creamy sauce. It is added to some mustards for an extra kick. If you have a jar of fresh horseradish, open it up and take a deep sniff. That'll clear up your sinuses in no time!

Horseradish is a condiment made out of the root of the horseradish plant. It is usually ground up and a mixture of salt, vinegar and water is added to it to make a thin paste. You use it on roast beef sandwiches (drooling just thinking about it), brautwurst, in cocktail sauce for dipping shrimp, prime rib and just about anything else that you can think of. It can be pungent-hot, but that is what makes it so wonderful.

Oh mercy NO! I love spicy food and sauces ( even horseradish sauce ), but not on cereal! I'm afraid if I were to put horseradish sauce on my oatmeal tomorrow morning, my wife would think I had finally gone over the edge! :)

it's a plant and the root is what the horseradish sauce is made from, (I think, it might be a rhizome, will check up on that) it's eaten with roast beef but only minimal amounts as it is very hot. The japanese make wasabi from horseradish.

It is a root of a leafy plant. If you harvest it and grate it , it looks like white parmesan cheese. Then you mix it with some sour cream and /or whipped cream and put on prime rib of beef or roast tenderloin of pork and it is very delicious. If you dont grow it , look in the produce section of your market for an ugly root type brownish thing. It also comes in small jars, but the fresh is the best. It burns your eyes while grating so wear glasses.
