What's the cause of the pain? I wouldn't recommend any OTC meds for humans without checking with a Vet first. It's real important to do this because depending upon the cause of the pain and the health of your dog, any med you give could be toxic or even fatal.
I have a good Vet who considers natural remedies before chemical ones in treating animals and I like that because sometimes the side effects, even for pain killers made for dogs, are potentially worse than the condition being treated.

try giving him 1/2 of a baby's aspirin, see if he's not dopey from it, then give him 1/2 in morning then 1/2 at bedtime. Did you take him to a vet ? Does he have an open injury ? Anti-biotic creams would be perfect for sores, applied after you wash the wound out. You should put an elizabethan cone around his head to prevent him from licking meds off. You could apply some gauze to the wound to keep it clean or just leave it open to air out. I would really think about bringing him to a vet. Infection can set in. And there may be underlying factors as to what is causing the pain. all the best. : )

He can take 1 adult aspirin1. I have a 100 lb dog. I have given him 2 when he was in a lot of pain like when he stepped on a tick and was limping from the bite.
Start out with one, it depends on the amount of pain your dog is in.

It is best to discuss this personally with your veterinarian. All medications, including aspirin, can have serious side effects that vary on an individual to individual basis. This can include liver disease/failure and clotting dysfunction. There are dog-specific non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, a class of drugs that aspirin falls under. These drugs are safer. I don't recommend giving human medications to animals unless it is specifically prescribed by a veterinarian.

You can give him 1 aspirin a day. Do NOT use Tylenol, that is poisonous.
The easiest way we ever found was to cut a hot dog in sections, push the aspirin into one of them, and the dog had no trouble at all.

wiki-answers says this:
"Any over-the-counter pain reliever other than aspirin has the potential of killing your dog or making him really sick. You can safely give aspirin; one baby aspirin (81 mg) for every 10 pounds - 4 baby aspirin equals one adult aspirin (325 mg)>

You can give him one aspirin. Thats what my vet told me to give my dog. You can also give him a benedryl if you're going on a car ride or something, it will put him out. Both of these I use on my german shepard.
