I have owned my cat for almost a year and just recently he sits at the door and meows. He is an indoor cat and has never once tried to go outside.

That's a territorial instinct. Male cats will vocalize anxiety if they sense another animal outside. If the cat is not neutered, he could be smelling a female. Have the cat neutered if he isn't already. If he is fixed, then you can sprinkle cayenne pepper on the ground outside the door to discourage other animals from visiting. Pepper spray or a 10% bleach/water solution will work, too.

I have a male cat that does that, too.....but he sits at the bedroom door (2 cats in bedroom and 8 in the part of the house where he is!) and does it. I have these cats separated, on purpose, and they've been apart for over 5 years, but that doesn't keep him from wanting in the room. I think he's just curious.....thinks he might be missing something! Your cat may see/smell another one outside. Or, if he's not neutered, already, he may smell an "in heat" female somewhere in the vicinity. However, if the meowing really gets on your nerves (and don't let him outside...too many dangers for him), just squirt him with a spray of water when he's meowing. If you do that everytime, and say "no", he'll soon get the picture, and you'll just have to show him the bottle and he'll quit. Good luck....and PLEASE don't give in and let him out!!

My male cat use to sit in the window or at the door and meow. I got him fixed and he does not do this any longer. With the combination of a un-neutered male cat and a female cat in heat outside, my male wanted to go outside and "meet" the female.
Since your male cat is meowing at the door, more than likely there is a female outside that is in heat and your male is not fixed and wants to go play kitty cat doctor with the female... Go get him fixed and he will stop meowing to get outside.

Cats could make extremely some noise because of the fact of hypothyroidism i've got faith additionally, so if it would not stop i'd get her checked medically, surprisingly if she gets each and every of the attention she could be soliciting for. If she is in basic terms meowing because of the fact she is in warmth, i'd propose to place the unfavorable lady out of her misery and while she is spayed possibly she would be able to be quiet. She could be getting revenge lol.

Is he neutered? If not, then there's your problem I bet. If he is, then he probably wants out but don't let him. Keep him inside and try to amuse him with scratching posts or catnip or catnip toys. Play with him a lot. Distract him.

Good luck!
