I was told the female Pomeranian is easier and more friendly than a male Pomeranian.......is this true?
I was also told they are tempermental, bark too often, don't like kids, and are a one owner dog. Is there any truth to these negative descriptions?

I've had both and both are sweet dogs. It's all personal preference. I prefer females only because of the marking and humping issues males have.

Poms4life: I didn't mean to give the impression that females don't hump - they sure can! When I was growing up, our female Chi mix humped anything that didn't move. Males just have a tendency to do it more. Neither of my females have ever humped anything, but my males have. Females are less likely to mark or hump.

Both are great. Male and females are both great...

They can be yappy sure. My dogs love kids but, we always have company over so they are used to different people and even kids being here. They will yap for a little while at first then they calm down after a few minutes.
Kids and little dogs don't mix for this reason, the dogs can be injured really easily. Their toe bones are like toothpicks. I know plenty of people who have had dogs with BROKEN LEGS. The one lady's dog just stepped wrong into a hole in the yard and broke its leg pretty bad. If a child were to drop the dog that could mean serious injuries.
They have to be socialized in many different situations and with different people. The more soicialization the better.
Every dog needs to be exposed to different people and different places. A dog locked up inside the house isn't going to have a outgoing temperament.
The dog needs training classes and socialization.
Treat the dog like a dog, not like a child/human. Too much spoiling can be a bad thing. Some spoiling is fine but, too much isn't good.

Pom Mom, my females hump too... More so then my male!

eitehr sex I go by the individual personality.
they are best if spayed or neutered
Depends on teh dog but training will take care of any of teh problems.
I have seen and heard some very yappy poms but then again I've seen and heard ones that are not yappy at all.
I have seen some that can get nippy and others are fine.
For the most part allthe things you have asked is more in the training of the dog.
Teh Poms I've owned were not one person dogs. Tehy can be taught to only care for one person over others again in hte training.

Once they are spayed/neutered they are the same dog.. When you have dogs spayed and neutered.. They are more people dogs, they don't have all that breeding stuff in the back of their head.. the desire to mark, roam, fight and everything else.. They are able to focus on you, train better, learn faster and everything else.. Once they are done, there isn't much difference between male and female ..

My aunt had a male and he was sold because he was really loud and barked , but he was friendly but personally i would get a female . Males get desperate , and you need to get them fixed or they will jump all on you .

not true. all dogs are different. it may make more sense that any small dog doesnt like children much only because they can be too rough. just pick the dog that best fits your family.

Both sexes should have about the same temperament - as long as he or she is spayed or neutered. Poms are sweet & loveable pets & either sex is just as good.
