Children often run higher temperatures then adults when sick. More and more doctors are saying that as long as a childs temperature is under 102 then most likely they are fine and also take in consideration, if your child is still interested in playing, is eating and drinking well, is alert and smiling at you, has a normal skin color, and looks well when his or her temperature comes down.

My niece who is now 4 years old would often run a temp of about 101 and it was rarely anything more serious then a cold. But do take the other guidelines into consideration.

I would not rush him to the ER as that in itself can stress the system as well as expose him to worse germs then he most likely has. I would put in a call to his regular doctor to reassure yourself and keep a close eye on him. But if his temp goes over 102 it might be worth getting him checked out sooner.

I hope he feels better soon!

Relax, 101.2 is not considered a "high fever". Give him some Tylenol or Motrin (check for the dose). As long as the pain reliever brings the fever down then you can wait. If he's acting OK, especially after you give him fever reducer then you could probably wait until Monday. Call your doctor if you're worried, before you go spend 3 hours at the hospital.

STOP!!! 101.2 is not a high enough temperature for the hospital. In fact, give him some ibuprofen when it hits 102 or more. Fevers kill the bug! Let him sit with that until he hits 102 or more. My girls have gotten up to 103 and THEN I put them in the tub w/ luke warm water(since I didn't want her to get the chills) and gave her ibuprofen. After that, she was fine If the fever (of 103 or more) lasts more than 30 min., THEN take him to the hospital. He'll be fine!

101.2 is not that bad. Children this age run fevers much higher than adults. My daughter, who is around the same age as your son, just had a temp of 103.9 and I called the after hours nurse and she said they will call the doc at 104 or higher and to take her to the ER at 104.5 As of now, I would alternate Childrens tylenol and Chilrens motrin, luke warm bath, monitor the child closely, and make a doctor appoinment to have them checked out fist thing Monday AM. Good luck!!

101.2 is really not that high, yet! Give him/her some bay Tylenol and cold compresses. He/she maybe fighting off an ear infection, cold or teething.
Stay on top of his temp with Tylenol watch to see if he/she tugs on his ear or wakes up screaming. Call the doctor to see if he'll call in some amoxocillian(if pulling ear) to Walgreen's and get him in Monday morning. If fever persists and ^ to 104, take to hospital.

101.2 isn't that bad of a temp. Children's Tylenol should help. If he is pulling at his ears, crying inconsolably, or if the temp should spike up past 103, call your pediatrician. He can prescribe something over the phone or give you suggestions to try.
Good luck.

this is a minor fever and certainly doesn't need a trip to the hospital unless there is something else happening. Tylenol or Motrin both work great. Our pediatrician said a normal temperature bath can help but only if fever gets 103 plus.

PS Doctors don't want to hear from you unless it's 104!!

DO NOT SUBMERSE YOUR CHILD IN WATER, NOT EVEN LUKE WARM!! HE MAY GO INTO SHOCK!

101 isn't high. 103 is. Don't put any water on him. Bad idea, I learned my lesson from that as they can go in shock. Give him infant motrin right away. motrin is better than tylenol.
