Buddhists are not atheists, they are agnostic, which means they dont know if there's a God at all.
I just want you to think about it(Not being pushy, cos it's your choice.)
Do you believe in creation, e.g: the trees the plants everything around oyu?? Is it logical that the earth fell into place out of nothingness?? Or is it logical that someone created it? Take it like a TV. Would it be more possible for someone to create the TV, or that a few random molecules collide together to form a TV?? Unlikely!! It would be better to believe that there was a creator.
And a creator= God?
If you believed in death, well, who created death?? Where are you going after death? If you were a buddhist, someone has to be taking the score right(like who goes into heaven and who goes to hell?)
This are just my opinions.
Whenever i experience God, there's just so much peace. I see God, many many times, and i'm sure that many people have felt this calmity that God has given them.
Good day.

The following definition of Atheism was given to the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Murray v. Curlett, 374 U.S. 203, 83 S. Ct. 1560, 10 L.Ed.2d (MD, 1963), to remove reverential Bible reading and oral unison recitation of the Lord's Prayer in the public schools.
“Your petitioners are Atheists and they define their beliefs as follows. An Atheist loves his fellow man instead of god. An Atheist believes that heaven is something for which we should work now – here on earth for all men together to enjoy.
An Atheist believes that he can get no help through prayer but that he must find in himself the inner conviction, and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and enjoy it.
An Atheist believes that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can he find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment.
He seeks to know himself and his fellow man rather than to know a god. An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. An Atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. He wants man to understand and love man.
He wants an ethical way of life. He believes that we cannot rely on a god or channel action into prayer nor hope for an end of troubles in a hereafter.
He believes that we are our brother's keepers; and are keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible persons and the job is here and the time is now.”

I assume most people are aware that the eastern traditions are largely non-theistic. It's only people who really have no clue about other religions who would say something, "an atheist can't be a Taoist".
EDIT: Case in point: pcolawing88's answer.

I thought that to be an atheist, you don't believe in God. If no atheist believes that God exists...... doesn't that qualify for "All atheists thinking alike...?"
If you mean the people who make statements like "Why do all _________ (fill in the blank with a group) think __________ or do _________?" Well, that would certainly be silly. In fact, it would be as stereotyping as your other questions.

There's also an assumption that atheists can't be spritual.. like spirituality and believing in god are mutually exclusive. again, Buddhism comes to mind.
I hear ya.
It's the "I'm Right You're Wrong" mentality.

I'm not sure I can think of any Western (major) religions; aren't all the major ones from the East or Middle East?
And Hinduism is definitely theistic.

Most have no real understanding of atheism. They are used to being told to think just like the rest of their religion. So i can see how the mistake can be made.

Only two religions on earth. Those that believe the one and true God, and that his son was born, died and rose again to offer a plan of salvation for everyone, and those that do not believe. Does not matter where on the earth you live or worship.
