I enjoy these educational televisions KCET, KLCS (LA area), WGBH (Boston) etc from the PBS network. But why is this great television not funded correctly by our government? They always ask pledges.
What about passing some PBS programs on ABC, CBS, NBC? Are these two networks so 'infinitely different'?
Please explain to me the basics on how this works

PBS has proven to be a politically active partisan network and should not be funded by tax payers.

The basic set-up is that while the CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) has an annual expenditure from the federal goverment, the bulk of the money needed has to come from viewer contributions.

Popular belief is that the government runs PBS...it doesn't. Unlike the BBC and other public broadcasters, the government does not own and operate it (and support it through federal taxes of some sort).
