All right. Why do we Christians seem to think that we will go to hell if we commit suicide. I understand it is murder, but still. If God forgives all sins, no matter what they are, why would we go to hell because of that? I'm just wondering. It's been bothering me for a while.

Though I was raised in the church & most of my life a christian I don't believe suicide is always unforgiveable. Blashemy of the Holy Spirit is the only thing mentioned in the Bible as unforgiveable. Even then it's only unforgiveable for those who have known the truth in it's fullness.

Main Entry: blas·phe·my
Pronunciation: \ˈblas-fə-mē\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural blas·phe·mies
Date: 13th century
1 a: the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God b: the act of claiming the attributes of deity
2: irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable

Suicide is a form of pride because you're basically saying God doesn't know what He's doing by allowing you to live. It's selfish because you never know what good may have come had you lived. Sometimes our greatest call comes at an old age. Example Abraham, Moses, even Grandma Moses. Had they taken their own lives how much worse off would the world be?

But it's also stated that it's appointed once for man to die. Appointment denotes a set time. Thus if they die by their own hand then that was the date as no one has the power to take their own life unless God allows it. How else can you explain those who live despite outrageous odd or die for no reason?

As for whether they go to heaven or not that's between them & God. Only God knows their heart at the moment of death. Often we don't even fully know our own heart so suicide isn't a chance I'm willing to take, no matter how bad things get (and they've been pretty bad). Besides with my usual luck I'd end up a vegetable with others doing everything for me & unable to try again. To me that'd be at least as bad as hell or even anything I may be going through now.

Some people believe that all who commit suicide go immediately to Hell. However, the Bible never says if this is the case. The Bible is silent on this issue. God probably did not address it in black in white for a good reason. If we knew that we would still go to Heaven if we killed ourselves, there would probably be a lot more suicides taking place than there already are. However, if we knew that all who killed themselves were automatically banished to Hell, no matter what their situation, it may be too much for the grief-stricken family and friends to bear. Murder and suicide are not unpardonable sins. The only unforgivable sins are rejecting Christ (Mark 16:16) and blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

ok well first, if you're going to say that, you might as well say "what's the point of sin and hell, if God forgives all sins?"

the thing is, you can't take advantage of God being forgiving, because to do so is a sin itself that will keep repeating every time God forgives you. yes, he does forgive sins but you have to ask for it with sincerity, and believe that jesus is your savior

and it's not just murder tha tmakes suicide a sin. who knows if later in life how many people would have been positivley influenced by you? how many people's hearts would have changed because of you?

i was suicidal once, too, and i just decided that if i can't live for myself, i'd live for others. that got me through it. of course now that i'm no longer suicidal, i live for myself- as well as others. remember that you're only suicidal now. find reasons to just get through it, because the moments of freedom and hapiness you can feel later is just so much more lasting than your suicidal moments now. i know it seems impossible to go on, because things are driving you over the edge. that's how it felt for me anyway. just hang on, and eventually you'll find something good in your life worth living for, even if it is just life

Not that I'm advocating suicide, but I don't believe in the concept of sin, nor do I believe in hell. So, if you commit suicide, I don't believe you "murdered" and I don't believe you'll go through all the pain and horror of hanging yourself or slitting your wrists only to end up in a fire pit for it.

But what I DO believe is, you snuff out a lot of important life experiences just because you were severely depressed and not one idiot friend or family member had the brains to pull you back from the brink and help you? THAT'S as close to a sin as I can think.

I believe it is something to do with the concept that if you have taken your own life you are saying that you have no faith in god or some such thing. As a parent I find it hard to believe that as god is meant to be our father he would further punish someone who was in so much pain that they felt the need to end their own life. But hey thats just me. Also I thought it was only catholics that believed this not christians as a whole.

When one considers that those who commit suicide are not in a logical frame of mind, then it could not be considered a sin by God or anyone else. It is not murder if one has no understanding of their actions. They perceive death as the only answer.

While suicide cannot be justified, God who fully understands that weaknesses and frailties could push one to such desperate action. The Bible says of Jehovah: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, his loving-kindness is superior toward those fearing him. As far off as the sunrise is from the sunset, so far off from us he has put our transgressions. As a father shows mercy to his sons, Jehovah has shown mercy to those fearing him. For he himself well knows the formation of us, remembering that we are dust.”—Psalm 103:11-14.

the catholic church declared suicide was a mortal sin, and a person committing suicide may not be buried in a church funeral on holy ground and their spirit was given up to hell for torment.

that is their version. there is no proof even in the bible that killing oneself is an unforgivable sin. life is crap for a lot of people. if god forbade suicide, then god should be more active in our lives to provide a better life for his children.

How else would you tell a primitive and superstitious people that suicide is a bad idea.
Especially when you have already filled their heads with sugarplum dreams of Heaven after death.

I do not recommend forcing death outside euthanizing. Everyone gets a turn - don't rush it. There is no Hell to worry about, your life will move on all the same.
