Your right to insert a brief statement is guaranteed by FCR Act § 611 (b). Depending on which state you live in its length varies from 100 to 200 words.

Unfortunately this statement will do no good to you because it is not considered when your credit score is calculated. Usually such statements are considered to be a consumer's defeat. If there is something you can do to dispute the item and its accuracy then do everything you can to remove it.

your friend is CORRECT. If you dispute any item(s) on your credit report, whenever the Credit Bureau sends out your report, they MUST include your statement disputing any debt. They can report the debt until their investigation proves whether you owe it or not.
