I prefer Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He was the man who brought Buddhism to America. He set up the first Buddhist school in Boulder, Colorado called Naropa Institute.

He had a great command of the English language and was able to put in simple terms and with use of analogy and humor to explain complex Buddhist ideas of form and concepts.

The Dalai Lama is a very compassionate man and I'm sure he is very wise but he does not speak English that well and he does not possess the talents of a natural born teacher.
Few people do.

I didn't realize he was an artist, too. But I really like the art of Salvatore Dali and I like Llamas.

I like him for his belief in world peace (not through a deity however).
