I have a Desktop computer with a VGA connection and i would like to connect this computer to my LCD tv that has an HDMI connection, but no pc input... at Best Buy they only sold a DVI/HDMI connection (DVI to computer, then the other end of the DVI which is an HDMI connection into the LCD TV.. so now i am looking for a VGA to DVI converter... then i will plug in the DVI/HDMI cord from Best Buy.

I found a VGA to DVI converter on eBay.. i don't exactly understand when it says male to female or female to male.. is this the right one for me?..

The above posters are correct, you cannot convert VGA to DVI with a simple adapter. However, you can buy a VGA to DVI converter. The problem is, they cost hundreds of dollars. You may be able to find a less expensive one. I've attached a link for one type. The better approach would be to upgrade your PC video card to one with an HDMI or DVI-D or DVI-I output. If you don't want to put your desktop on tv and just watch SD DVDs, then all you need is a board with an S or composite output.
A board with DVI output can be had for around $100. Google Nvidia.

Sorry

Your plan is NOT going to work. VGA is analog and HDMI is digital.
Yes, there is a VGA to DVI adaptor, but the output is DVI-Analog (not DVI-digital). So, save your money.

The best solution is to buy a new video card for your desktop, one with Digital DVI (or even HDMI) out. Look at Nvidia, ATI, etc.
