A hanging lamp that is designed to be hard wired can easily be attached to an extension cord and plugged in. You have the two wires plus the ground. Use wire nuts to make the connections and wrap the whole thing with electrical tape. It might not be the prettiest thing around, but it will be safe. If you can plug it into a switched outlet you are all set. If not, an inline switch is not complicated.

Pendants have to be hard wired. There wouldn't be a way to drape a pendant. Look for ceiling lamps that do not have the hard wire plate and a long chain to swag from the outlet to the ceiling. Sconces are available with the cord hanging straight down to your outllet. If you are unsure, ask anyone in a lighting store to show you your options.

Both are the same. They hang from the ceiling. Both models come with some that connect to the wiring in the wall -- and some just have a cable that runs through the chain and plugs into an outlet -- Just make sure that you check it out before you buy.
