If so, what was the experience like? Did you retaliate in any way? Are you any different today due to the experience?

ruler on knuckles.. butt.... back of legs.. across top of shoulders...biceps... forearm... back.... palm of hand ....

wooden spoon... same places...

cane... finger tips.

In truth I probably was asking for it most of the time. I used to ask "adult" questions especially in religion.

Retaliate.... yes.. I invented ever increasingly more devious questions to run riot... once I called Sister an "old black crow".. as in.. "you dont scare me you old black crow".. pretty tough for a 9 year old don't you think!

Yes. This punishment made me realise that I'm agnostic and if there is a god, it is an apathetic one to which I am indifferent.

The catholic school I went to as a child (I am no longer catholic) had one nun there who weighed almost 300lbs. Often we had to go up to the blackboard and solve her math problems; when a child could not figure the problem out, according to her time frame, she would literally grab the kid by the hair and slam it into the blackboard; not for something the child did wrong, but for something they just could not figure out, like a math question. Of course, back in those days (the 70's) when the kids told their parents, most parents usually would reply by saying: what did you do wrong?

Also if a child's family were not up to date with their church payments (required) the poor child was humiliated in front of the class by not receiving their report card until their parents (usually poor and struggling financially) paid the church dues; this made many kids cry in front of the entire class.

brutal.

Yes once.. While attending a year at a Catholic H.S.

It was completely out of line... I had simply disagreed with her opinion... She proceeded to smack my knuckles and yell for me to "Repent" several times.. I did not comply... I had professed a belief in evolution rather than agreeing with her on creation...

I retaliated using the school by-laws.. She did not have a right to physically strike anyone as punishment... I reported to my parents and the head of the school.. She was taken out of the school and never taught again..

I learned that simply because someone appears to weild power doesn't mean they can break the rules... I also learned to use the law to my advantage...

Yes, many times with the triangular ruler, boy that's old school couldn't happen today. Sister Mary Margret had a way of making you believe you earned the punishment. I won't make a fist for just anyone.

I was hit on my fingertips with a ruler (several occasions). Not once did I let the freaking nun see that it hurt. I smiled it away. Never gave her the satisfaction.

It wasn't a nun, but yes. It hurt. I cried.
It was early correction for something I did wrong in a classroom. I don't remember what that wrong was, so I can only surmise a positive effect.

Nope. But my wood shop teacher yanked a bong I was making from off the lathe and hit me across my collar bone with it.

Prick.

well it hurt like hell (went to a catholic school as a child). they have you kneel in front of the blackboard and spank the hell out of you or they had you hold up your fingers together and hit 'til your nails broke =(
i was too young to "fight back" and i never think about it much.
