The PS3 is not overpriced. Sony isn't even making any money off of the PS3's yet. And the PS3 DOES not cost $600. The new 40GB PS3 costs $399, and the 80GB PS3 costs $499. The price has been dropped for months now.
When the 60GB PS3 first came out it cost Sony over $800 dollars to produce just one. The only game console in my opinion that's overpriced is the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 Halo edition doesn't even have a built in HD drive and it costs the exact same as the 40GB PS3. The 40GB PS3 has built in Blu-Ray and costs less than the Xbox 360 Elite.
If you were to go out and purchase a good stand alone Blu-Ray DVD player, it would cost more than any of the PS3 models.
The PS3 is a bargain to me.

Actually you're right it doesn't cost $600 to make a PS3, it costs more so you can count yourself lucky that Sony doesn't charge more and are willing to sell it at a loss. And by the way Nintendo makes about $50 per Wii, so it is the most overpriced considering the Wii's power.
Also the PS2 was able to go down in price bacause of economies of scale. When it first started it's costs had to be spread out over a small volume of consoles but now it is a large amount that are being sold and the costs are spread over a greater number of consoles. As technology ages it decreases in price so the PS2's parts are now cheaper than when it was first released.

Both Sony and Xbox are losing money on the game consoles, how can you say they are overpriced? It does cost more to make these consoles, than they are selling it for. They do this because there is such high margins on the accessories and video games.
I agree the game consoles are expensive, but that is because new technology costs money. If you removed the BluRay technology from the PS3, Sony probably could be selling the PS3 for $300 and still make a profit.

First off, a PS3 costs $399.99 or $499.99 plus tax. That's not $600. Second, on the high end PS3 model, Sony loses nearly $300 per sale. It costs about $900 to make.
