ya know that Mac commercial where they make fun of the PC guy with that security guard next to him asking for permission for everything? Vista actually is that annoying.
My scanner just won't work. The website says buy a new one.
My Combo scanner printer fax, although works basically, the HP driver programs that run the One button controls and fax wizard have not been updated. Go buy a new one.
A few of my old programs that appear to work suddenly have strange glitches. Other programs just say no. Go buy a new one.
And what really sucks, some of the things I bought for the computer that said vista ready, like my video card, have been abandoned by the manufacturer because they are so last year and I am stuck with the basic Microsoft driver
I tried the 64 bit vista, because I made a 64 bit computer, but alot more stuff just didn't work, no one had enough drivers yet.
I sometimes consider going back to XP, but I have used up my allotment of installations with my XP key.
P.S. Since when do parents want to spend money on a new computer? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Depends on the games you want to play in the end. Vista has DX10 and paired with a 8 series nvidia video card you would be amazed. So if you have a pci express x16 slot get vista and a video card if you are a gamer and are wanting to play the (new) games. Vista has already improved since it came out and will continue to improve as the year progresses. Check this link for info on system requirements to make sure that your pc is up to par to handle vista. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx Hope this helps.

It depends.
Go to wikipedia.org and search for Windows Vista, and it will give you an unbiased list of the good and bad points.
Do you know if it is 32 or 64 bit? If it is 64 then don't bother - most programs wont work well with a 64bit computer.
If your just getting it because its new and you dont really need it, then stick with XP. You can always upgrade when the service pack comes out.
Finally, if you do upgrade then you shouldnt get Home Basic, theres really no point upgrading. Home Premium is the best edition.

My father has Windows Vista and I wanted to get it for my laptop so I checked it out, but really, all that is different is the appearance and you get a couple of new games with it. Besides, if you wait a bit, it gets cheaper and any glitches that might have existed will have been solved.

Wait awhile. Vista is full of problems and Microsoft doesn't have solutions. A few months ago, I got a new IBM notebook with Vista Business. Vista runs slower, crashes (in its own way) often, and is a memory hog (both RAM and HD). I had lots of other random problems too.
And now IBM is offering its customers the "Vista to XP Downgrade." Funny, huh? So now my computer has XP, and I'm a lot happier.
Ask your dad to get you a new computer with XP, and purchase Vista in 6 mos to a year, when they've got it tweaked. Unless it goes the way of WinME, of course.

DO NOT GET VISTA!! I have spoken to many independent experts, who know more than I, and not one person has a nice thing to say about it. I have heard it called "Windows From the Devil," "The O. S. from Hell," etc. They went so far as to say that if a computer had to run Vista, they would not buy it.

i have vista and i don't think there are so much glitches as there is a lot more to learn. if you like learning switch but be aware that a lot of your software and hardware will not be compatible. i had to buy a new printer/scanner also.

Don't.
I got Vista & had a "H" of a time getting my XP back.
XP is tried & true where Vista is still in it's prototype stage.
Stick with the evil you know. ;)
