You may not be following the directions on the box carefully enough. Plus, your oven is too hot. Re-read the directions and follow them, and lower the temperature of your oven 25 degrees (don't shorten the time they're in the oven) They should come out much more evenly baked. Don't forget to pre-heat your oven before putting the biscuits in to bake - if you put them in and then turn it on, it'll louse up the whole baking cycle.

If you've had the bisquick for a long time, the ingredients might have settled. Could the bitter taste be from the baking powder being too strong in the part you mixed? I know too much baking powder will make a nasty taste.

The only other bitter taste from baking powder biscuits that I'm aware of is if you burn the bottoms.

look online under biscuit resipes, google it. Biscuits are hard to make. I am not a big fan of Bisquick. I generally make the frozen Pillsbury biscuits, easy and are good. My biscuits I make turn out like hockey pucks.
