IN THE UK if you HURRY you can still get the 60GB model. But I would definitley hurry, as I did. Please ignore the guys from America saying that it has been discontinued, as theyre talking about USA models. For example,I got my 60gb PS3 from Gamestation - it came with 2 games, 2 dvds and a controller for £349.99

The PS2 graphics chips were removed from the 40gb PS3 becuase people were moaning about the price of the machine and Sony decided to "trim the fat" so that they can start to shift more by selling them cheaper,as currently, they actually LOSE money on each one sold due to cost of the chips and of the expensive development.

As far as I know, the things that are taken away from the 40gb model are 1. PS2 Backwards compatibility (PS1 worksfine) and 2. Super-Audio CD playback (a hi-res audio cd format - the quality of vinyl sound but with the convenience+reliability of CD.)

All have wifi built in. The 60gb was discontinued I think cuz sony found out Backwards Compatibility wasn't that important to people, so this way they switched the hardware to software to save a little money. You still get some B/C but not as much.

ps. Below person is wrong, they have been discontinued. And below that also wrong, 40gb, 80gb, 60gb all have built in wifi, only discontinued 20gb didn't have wifi.

It was discontinued because they wished to rely on software emulation instead of hardware for backwards compatibility. The new model that replaced the 60GB was the 80GB. Pretty much the exact same console, but with 20GB more HDD space for a lower price than the 60GB when it first came out.

40GB, 60GB and 80GB have wi-fi built in. I think there will still be enough for a bit yet (they're still on play.com). They have discontinued the 60GB everywhere else and it doesn't make sense to just produce the 60GB for Europe. I think they will however introduce the 80GB and have the same 2 models everywhere. If you want the 60GB it's probably better to get one sooner rather than later so you're not disappointed

they haven't been discontinued. because it is near christmas it is difficult to get one. the 60gb ps3 backtracks so you can play PS2 and PS1 games whereas the 40gb one doesn't so no-one wants to buy a 40gb.
