Even if you justly defend yourself in a situation, what could happen to you if you use an illegal weapon, such as illegal gun or switchblade defending yourself?

The self defense would still be justified, but you could be charged with possession of the illegal weapon.

That would depend on the prosecutor, and the circumstances surrounding the event. Without extenuating circumstances, I would expect the weapons charge to be filed.

Self defense is valid even when an illegal gun or weapon was used. The act is justified because life is threatened.

You will be charged with possession of the weapon. Not for defending yourself.

Self-defense is not punishable in court, IF the weapon used is equal to the force done by the attacker, or life was in danger. You cannot shot a person and kill them for attacking you, unless you believed you were being killed.

If you want to know more, you will have to search your states Penal Code, and Criminal Procedural Code. Let me know if you need anything else.

You would be charged with the possession of the illegal weapon.
Something as comman as a switchblade or gun, no prior convictions, you would be looking at probation & a fine.

Department of Corrections is likely. And for some reason self defense never is noted around here. They just see the person as commiting a violent act, and never get around to why they did what they did.

Even when confronted with the truth, it doesn't seem to matter.

Possession of an illegal weapon is illegal.

You can be prosecuted for that, whether you use it in self-defense, in a crime, or not at all.
