I am just moving into a rental property and the carpet is not very attractive. I thought I could just cover it with a new carpet, but not fit it as it would be against the landlord's wishes. Someone has now told me that you can't place carpt over carpet as it will damage the old carpet and ruck. I can cope with the rucking (just about) but am really worried about damaging the old carpet as it's not mine. Can anyone help or advise?

This is something I tried last year.It didn't work at all.First it moved and rippled really bad.After 6 months we gave up and removed it and saw additional wear marks on the original carpet/Sorry, Vinny

The best thing you can do is find a carpet binder in your area to bind a rug to fit your room. There are fabric backings you can get to hold your rug in place and protect the carpet underneath. I am a carpet binder by trade and just recently did this exact thing in a customer's home. It works awesome and is actually cheaper than installing new carpet. You really don't want to put actual carpeting over what is already there, but you can buy rugs large enough to cover most of it without doubling the thickness. I have asian rugs over carpeting for decorative purposes. You can surely find a rug that would work for you.

This is my opinion. I think that you should maybe get rugs that fit your style and match your house or apartment. But if you really don't like your carpet, you could pick out a bunch of rugs and spread them all across your house or apartment. But make sure that all the rugs are not to big, or to small. And remember, that is just my opinion.
