I found a tremendous amount of peace the farther I got from religion. When I became an atheist, it was probably one of the most liberating moments of my life. Hence, I call myself a Born Again Atheist. :)

Either way, I'm glad to hear you are doing better. I've been down that road myself (suicidal, etc)...I hope you are able to continue this way.

I'm sure a lot of people will not agree with your choice, but I think at some time you have to just start living your life and concentrating on being the best you that you can be.
Good luck. Maybe at some point you can pray a little bit but not in such an obsessive way.

I´m glad that you feel better now.
I cannot know what religion you are, but sometimes people have times of intense religious feelings, and then less so. If you were feeling blue or depressed, you may have sought the confort of faith. Once you are better, things go back to normal. Just in case, see a doctor, because suicidal thoughts are a serious thing. Also just in case, I suggest if you were in contact with some weird religious people, leave them alone and find a normal church. God is on your side :-)

If giving up religion is keeping you alive then it's good to have given it up. If it was a burden then it's great that it's gone. Religion isn't the part that matters. My Grandpa wasn't at all religious, but that didn't stop him from being spiritual. I suggest that you continue to lay off religion. Don't bother trying to read the Bible faithfully. Don't bother repeating that prayer every night before you go to bed and before you eat. However, start being spiritual. When you lay in bed awake at night just tell God about your day. Tell Him about your friends. Tell Him about your crush. And listen. He gives great advice. Try it.

You just brought a smile to an old Christian's face with that post. Upon reading I imagined a soul so busy in petitions that no time was taken to allow an answer to arrive. Ever see that person who can talk, talk, talk, talk, talk?
We must be patient and have faith that God will hear and answer our prayers. It is good to see you have peace. Do not forget to give thanks to Him.
You have a long life ahead of you. Slow down and enjoy it, the same way Jesus did.

Lots of people believe utter baloney, and are better off without it. But it is illogical to conclude that all religions lead to suicidal tendancies just because your religion produced those feelings in you.

Yeah, the devil is good at making life easy without God around. Usually, when we are not in communion with God through obedience to what He says, we deal with guilt and depression. My question is are you following God or is there unresolved sin in your life? You can't live in sin and expect to be happy spending time with God. I am not speaking of trying to be perfect. We will always be sinners. However, many times like for instance, I used to look at pictures of naked women on the internet a lot. Well, needless to say when I prayed or read my Bible, I wasn't feeling exactly positive about the time spent. Look into your life and see if there's something that's separating you from all that God has to offer in a relationship with Him. Then, offer it up in prayer for forgiveness and turn away from whatever it is. God will help you and you will see a huge change in your life. Do not give up on Jesus because He isn't giving up on you. Jesus loves you.

Good on you! While religion has good points, there does seem to be a focus on guilt and the requirement of "worship".

I have to wonder, would a being so powerful and mighty create us just so we could spend our days praising Him and thanking him for every little thing we have? Would He be that fickle that he requires our constant acknowledgment, platitudes and eternal gratitutde? I would like to think not.

I would like to think that I would be ok with God if I treated his other creations with kindness and respect and did what I could to ease suffering of those less fortunate than myself...I think my time is better spent in this endeavor rather than dragging myself off to sing hymns and sit in uncomfortable pews and listen to the stories of a particular version (one of many) of God and how I am going to suffer eternal damnation unless I bow and scrape...too much pressure.

I am happy for you :)

If doing what you were doing didn't work, it only makes sense that you would try something different. Maybe when this phase passes, you will approach spirituality from a more realistic viewpoint. Religion can't save you. Only a real spiritual relationship with Jesus can do that.

Bet you didn't have that, did you?

Good for you!! I'm happy you stopped reading scriptures! Why? because it worked, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Now if reading scriptures and believing in God allowed you to cure suicidal tendencies then I'd say "Good for you"! I'm glad you started reading scriptures!.

I think you're unique, I think you're human, and I want to give you a big hug >:D< Forget Christianity or Atheism, what's important here is YOU! :)

:)
