Depends...if he's talking with the friend, it would simply mean that he wanted his friend's input in the situation.

Now, if he told the GIRL that he'd just been joking after it came back to her that he was interested...then forget about him until he grows-up. He's not worth your time until then. Right now, it sounds like he'd be more likely to drop you the second he gets what he wants out of you.
