I just got a thing in the mail from the Union Workers Credit Services saying I was pre-approved for a platinum credit card with a credit limit of $10,000 and an APR of 5%. It has no bank affiliation and I didn't apply for this card. My other two credit cards have credit limits of $750 and $1,500 and I don't have a great credit rating, only around 665. It sounds too good to be true so I'm hesitant to respond to it but it would be a good way to consolidate my debt onto one card and pay off my car loan.
How do I find out if this is a scam or not? It says to reply by 12/5 and send a check/money order for $37 which is fully refundable after my first purchase with my card. It doesn't give me a phone number or website, and I don't want to send $37 to someone and not be able to consolidate my debt onto this card.
I'm also not in any workers union so I don't know how the company got my name. Where can I go to see if this is a scam or not, because if it isn't, I'd be a life saver.

The 5% APR is better then any of my other cards and my car loan. The only loans that it's not better then are my student loans.

Don't let the name "Union Workers Credit Services" fool you; "Although we service members of unions, we are neither affiliated nor sponsored by any union."
The card is not a Visa or MasterCard, so you won't be able to consolidate your other cards. The $10,000 credit limit is only good for their website or catalog products.
While they do offer a $37 rebate, they make you pay a membership fee of $95.
If you were sent a pre-approval letter it should have the union affiliation on it. If you're not part of a union, they probably just gave you a random one.
By all accounts, I've heard nothing but negative things from Ripoff Reports and other websites. If it were me, I'd throw it away.

When companies send out pre-approvals they don't dig very deep into credit reports, so there's no actual guarantee that you would get the card, I started getting pre-approvals the day after I turned 18 (this was back before the market crash when they were still handing out cc's left and right and you could still get a traditional unsecured card at 18 with no problem even with no credit history). But seeing as you have a checking account with the bank, then I'd say there's a good chance you'd get the card.

I would be VERY VERY leery of any offer that doesn't have a "live" person for you to talk to. Also, I have never seen a credit card ask for $ up front to open a card (kiss that good bye)....if it seems to good to be true it is (and why do you think you would qualify for that amount??? makes no sense). You could try the Better Business Bureau or the spoof web site--but with out a bank or affliation sounds totally bogus.

Hmmm...Union Workers Credit Services??(lol). This smells like a scam. Assume you're not getting your 37.00 back. What do they really want? Your SSN.
Your name was "purchased" from a list stemming from your other credit listings.
Thousands of names on a credit list are sold daily between legitimate credit card companies and not so legitimate companies.

1. The website is http://www.unionworkerscreditservices.com
2. The phone number is 214-424-6888
3. You cannot consolidate your debt onto this card and you cannot use it to pay off your car loan. This card can ONLY be used to purchase things from this company and things in this company's catalog. You cannot use it to purchase things from other companies. You cannot use it to get cash. You cannot use it to consolidate debt. You cannot transfer balances from other cards. You cannot pay off your car loan. The ONLY four things that you can use this card to do are to purchase things from this company, receive whatever discounts are offered to holders of this card, attempt to open unlocked doors by jimmying the lock with the credit card, and give it to a child to use as a toy.

Yuo already know the answer, if it sounds to good to be true it is. Save your $37, in my 46 years I have never seen a credit card that charges a fee the first year. Sounds like a scam to get personial info.

i got the same thing in the mail too and i even sent the $37.00 dollars to get the visa and mastercard they was offering. i waited for a long time for the cards but i never got it. its a secure credit card. you have to pay the amount of credit limit you want. they try to trick you making you think that its not a secure credit card. they only want to take your money.
Please Please Please do not fall for this credit card Hoax.
