John 6 25-53

Jesus the bread of life
6:25 And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled. 6:27 Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed. 6:28 They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God? 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What then doest thou for a sign, that we may see, and believe thee? what workest thou? 6:31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat. 6:32 Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven. 6:33 For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 6:34 They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 6:35 Jesus said unto them. I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 6:36 But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not. 6:37 All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 6:38 For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 6:39 And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 6:40 For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 6:41 The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven. 6:42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven? 6:43 Jesus answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day. 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me. 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath seen the Father. 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth hath eternal life. 6:48 I am the bread of life. 6:49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 6:51 I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world. 6:52 The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 6:53 Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves. 6:54 He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 6:56 He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him. 6:57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me. 6:58 This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever. 6:59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

Catholics argue that they do not worship Mary, but that they are only honouring her, although most of what they do seems like worshiping her though. The idea is this, they believe that given the natural bond that usually exists between a child/son and the mother, that anything the mother asks of the son he will give - so they go and ask the mother, trying to convince her because according to them, once she agrees it's a cinch! But, the Bible tells us that God has exalted the name of Jesus above every other name and has given us that name to plead through such that none shall come to Him except through Jesus. So you see, no mention was made of Mary.

Well, I don't think they deny being christians.

I'm not catholic though.

Most Catholics are accused of being worshipers of Mary, That is termed as being mariolatry. No more than idolatrous worship of the Virgin Mary.

This is because traditionally Catholics put much emphasis on Mary and even today pray to her.

When the Bible makes it clear we are to pray to God in Jesus's name.

But Catholics that believe in Jesus are nevertheless, Christians.

My mum is Roman catholic, so I should know this.

Even though fallowing her tradition she still prays to Mary

Other 'Christian' denominations however, and I am sure I do not need to list them, will not accept Catholics as Christian.

But please do not worry about it, it is their problem. not yours.

Because of your faith in Jesus, you are put right with God. And are counted amongst the elect. What you have will never be taken away from you. God saw you before the world was made. You were in his divine plan, so remember His words in your heart, "even though a father and mother may forsake you I will never leave you nor forsake you." says the Lord.

If you read your Bible, which I am sure you do, you will know these words to be true.

I don't understand it, either. How can Christianity (including Catholics) be called monotheist, if they worship God, Jesus, Virgin Mary, Holy Spirit...

That's why I am not a Christian anymore, although I used to be for 10 years.

Search history, especially the time of Henry VIII, it explains a lot about protestant vs catholic.
If you believe Christ is your person saviour, then you are a Christian, just not a protestant one.
I am not catholic but do hold the Mother Mary in high esteem, and I have a rosary, and practice Hail Mary's. It is a comfort to me and a reminder of my blessing through Christ.
Am I less Christian or more Catholic? I do not care.
These terms are labels mankind has given us.
I am a Christian. Does it make me less of one because I also meditate?
Search your heart and you will find your God. No one elses, yours.
Christ loved Thomas, and he was always asking questions. Keep asking. You will have your answers.

I think Catholics are Christians, too. But Mary isn't God, and many believe that things like the rosary beads, praying to Mary and the saints, statues, and Ava Maria are taking away from the complete worship of God.

First of all we are all equal in the eyes of GOD.

Religion though have good intentions often divides instead of uniting. Remember anything manmade such as practices, interpretations, traditions, etc ruins what God has intended to communicate to us..hence misunderstandings between different religions.,

Anyway, Catholics are Christians. We do not have a "SPECIAL" bible like one of our Christian sister posted here. BUT..what make Catholics unique not special is that not only we try to understand the word of GOD through the bible alone but we also study the practice and traditions particularly in the time period of Christ.

Devotions to Mother Mary, the Saints, etc does not mean that we have more than one God for there is only one and only true God. We are honoring their sacrifice and contributions to our faith. Yes only Christ is the way to the Father in Christianity, but there is nothing wrong asking for an intercession to our Blessed Mother whom Christ himself said while he was on the corss that THIS IS YOUR MOTHER hence she has a special role.

Come to think of it I will just keep blabering and not make sense for there is a long explanation....the whole point is we are all brothers and sisters in God how we practice our beliefs is our own prerogative but respect other practices and not judge.

I am a Baptist, I don't think that you worship Mary. Some just don't understand the saint thing in the catholic church. The immaculate heart of the mother is not that respected in our church, it is more about the message of Jesus. Protestants just like to focus on Jesus, but yall are definitely Christians, and don't let anyone tell you different.

This appears to be yet another case of misunderstanding on the one hand and on the other hand a sign of the times that we are in - where it is p.c. to 'trash' your origins. There are alot of tremendous parts of all religions. They are, after all, about God. God in many languages and from many perspectives. So, it's up to you, do you let 'those who think you worship Mary and are not a Christian' have sway over what you know and hold to be true, or do you get caught in the very tempting trap of trying to 'help them understand' your religious perspective? If you are sincerely asking for my opinion, it is this: Get to you Secret Place of the Most High, and go into your closet and murmur with God for a bit. Then you will have no concern what will come out of your mouth, God will speak to those who question you. And if you have not the answer, then you may simply and comfortably hold the silence. God speaks in many ways. We who choose to hear, hear.

Any Christian will recognize that Catholics are also Christian. These different traditions go back hundreds and thousands of years, and we are kind of stuck with them just like Baptists are stuck with preachers with powder blue leizure suits.
No Catholic thinks Mary is a God or demi-god, end of story. Some groups think the departed saints can hear our prayers and possibly relay them on to God or help us out a bit too. That's all.

I think that to many protestants the statues in catholic churches suggest idolatry which is not acceptable in Christianity therefore catholics can't be christian. I an atheist but it does suggest the same thing to me but I don't care
