Yes and no. There are many different sparrow species and many do fly south for the winter such as the White-crowned Sparrow, while others are non-migratory and stay year round, such as House Sparrows.

Answer is mostly yes. Most native sparrows move south, however the distances are usually not great compared to neotropical migrants bird like flycatcher, vireos, warblers,etc. House sparrows are not really related to our native sparrows, and are usually residents year-round

No, we have hundreds of them around our feeders in the winter, here in Ohio. There are numerous types of sparrows.
