I am getting a lot of 'mileage' out of my coffee.
You see I buy my coffee in whole bean form. As a matter of fact I buy my whole bean coffee 'green' and roast it myself. I just came inside after roasting a weeks worth of coffee for 9 of us at work. I have two 3 quart jars of roasted coffee beans that I will grind just before I brew the coffee each day. Fresh Roasted coffee ground fresh and brewed fresh.
I pay roughly $4.00 a pound for the green beans and get 60 to 65 cups of coffee out of every pound. Ask you local *$'s if they will sell you for $0.12 or even $0.25 a cup, which would be about 4 times what they pay for their coffee beans.
I would be surprised if they pay $1.00 a pound for their beans. But they don't pay the same to the farmer, But wait, "they" don't buy from the farmer, they buy from a broker who tries to pay the farmer $0.25 a pound for their crops.
I buy from a supplier who buys from the farmer as often as he can and pays the farmer a Fair price. As a matter of fact this last year one farmer got over $50.00 a pound from My supplier for his coffee,

If you don't like the coffee prices there you can just skip going to Starbucks. If you don't like the cost of gas then do you walk to work or go on horseback? And how about the cost of fuel oil - were you planning to not heat your house because that is too high?

So that is an amusing analogy but in real life it makes no sense since you are comparing luxuries with necessities.

Starbucks is always getting a bad rap, when the truth is, a cup of coffee at Starbucks costs $1.85 or less. It's the espresso coffee drinks that are ridiculously priced.

People will always justify their addictions and twisted priorities, regardless of how ridiculous.

It's just like when people complain about being fat by shifting blame to their "thyroid", or the fact they're "big boned", and yet they do nothing but sit on their fat @$$ during their free time. Go to any weight lifting spa in the U.S.A. and guess where you'll find all the fat people?....sitting in the jacuzzi, steam room or sauna...:\ I'm serious...

Coffee is a necessity to me. And I fully agree with you. Prices are getting outragous. But the cost of everything is getting beyond reason and it is getting harder and harder for people to just feed their families. I don't know how some families are making it...I don't know answers to the problem. But I am NOT going to give up my coffee.....I just may have to buy cheaper brands.

Based on Australian prices, 1kg of good quality roasted coffee beans costs around $25kg on average. Espresso generally requires 7gr per 30mls so a litre of espresso requires 33.33 shots or 233.33g. Therefore 1ltr of espresso would cost $5.83.

Petrol (gas) costs $1.35.

However, on average I consume 3 shots of espresso coffee per day. Weekly that would cost $9.19. Unfortunately my petrol bill is closer to $40 weekly.

If however I had to purchase my espresso from a cafe at $3 shot it would cost $63 weekly....which is why I own a coffee machine.

you're better off buying one cup of Starbucks coffee with an extra shot of expresso than buying gas! LOL :) Oh man well, more than $100.. very, very, very expensive. Geeze I don't even want to think about it!
