Ok, so say I were to pray to God. It seems logical to ask for something sacred, something simple, something that everyone can relate to like good health, food, good weather and so on. Does the ritual still work if I ask for something more complicated? Will God make my computer run as fast as it did before (please exclude jokes)? Will God increase the gas-mileage on my car? Will he shorten the release date of Starcraft 2? What differentiates my wishes from the "proper" wishes? Does it not apply to things that didn't exist back when the Bible was more believable?

If you can pray for him to smash your enemies we should be able to get SC2 to go gold.

We should only pray for God's will to be done. We have no idea what negative effects our desires will cause. Only God has the foresight to not grant prayers that will harm us and our fellow human beings in the future. Imagine God increased your gas mileage. The oil, car makers, and government would find out, you would never be heard from again.

In my experience, it is important to focus prayer on what is troubling your heart, such as a relationship, or if you're going through a tough time at work, etc. God knows exactly what you need and He will give it to you; He knows better than you what you need. For example, you may ask for a million dollars, but do you truly need it? more than likely not, and that's why God won't give that to you, but maybe more like strength or faith in Him to trust that He really does know what's going on. Do you really need Starcraft II? no; those things are worldly and are not necesssary to this life. Have strength and as silly as this may sound, pray for what to pray for. Maybe He will guide your thoughts and prayers to something you haven't really considered. God Bless!

you ca pray to God for everything you want and if the thing you prayed for wolud help you to go to heaven after death, you be sure that God will give you what you asked for. Also He can't make your computer work faster but He could help you to do that
yourself, you must know that if you succeed to improve your computer or better, to chage it , don't forget to say "thank you God!". But like how I was saying, if the thing you need helps you to go to Heaven, you would get it, all you have to do is to pray every day and have faith.

Repeatedly in the scriptures we are encouraged to ask for wisdom....concerning your laundry list of needs to be met, my suggestion to you would be to "seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven and all these things shall be added." Meaning, God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory. Blessings.

I know! Pray for things that have a strong likelihood of happening anyway, that way you can convince yourself of gods existence, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

You can pray for a raise or a lost dog but you cannot pray for world peace, to feed the hungry or anything that helps humanity. God does not have time to help those who cannot help themselves.
