i have a HUGE multivitamin i usually have to cut it into 3 or 4 peices to swallow it ... is it still as effective

If it's a traditional tablet, then there is no problem with cutting it to get it down. If it's a time release tablet, then don't cut it. You can get an overdose that way. It'll probably be ok.

It is definetly still effective, i can go so far as saying it is more effective and it hits your system way faster because it is broken. Breaking it up to take is not a problem at all.

Cutting some tablets is dangerous as it can lead to overdose or failure of a drug to work. In general, you can cut tablet if it is scored (i.e. it has a line in the middle)

It may not be as effective.

Some vitamins are enteric-coated, which means they don't "dissolve" until they reach your small intestine. This can decrease stomach irritation and increase absorption of the vitamins. Read more about enteric coatings at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enteric_coating

Since we don't know the brand of vitamin you're taking, we can't be more helpful. You may want to do some independent research to see if your vitamin is enteric-coated.
