Wow, what a lot of bad answers from people who have clearly never been there.

First off, it is a myth that prostitution is legal in Vegas. It is not. There is a county not too far away where prostitution is legal and the Bunny Ranch is located, but the Bunny Ranch is not IN Las Vegas.

Vegas is referred to as sin city as a label by people with a puritan mindset who think that gambling, drinking and decadence is wrong. So because of the 'sinful' things you can legally do in Vegas, the name stuck.

I noticed that a few people posted that gambling and drinking are sinful. But let us not forget that Noah was a drunk, and produced alcohol for a living. Yet God chose him as the savior of mankind and allowed him to live several hundred years. Let us also not forget that the Bible does not really condemn gambling at all. The book of Job is a story about God and Satan spending a few years gambling with each other using one of Gods followers as a pawn. In fact God allows this man to be tortured and his family killed, just over a wager. Seems like gambling to me.

So for those people who claim the Bible is against gambling and drinking, let's see some Bible references next time.

Way back when Las Vegas was getting her casinos, the casinos were funded by the Mob and it was the only legal place to gamble so I guess that is why it was known as Sin City.

Gosh... I love Las Vegas! I can do whatever I want... Is it a sin if I'm not doing anything to harm anyone? I guess that it depends on what you're up to!

Las Vegas is home to some of the most vilest activities of any city in America. It is the largest city devoted to Gambling, and prostitution is legal there. Crime rate is exorbitantly high, with homicide and rape topping them(remember, prostitution is legal). Therefore the city's reputation has suffered severely due to these activities, and has been christened "Sin City".

sin city really describes what goes on in las vegas --- if you want to watch -- participate -- pay -- or play --- it is all these and much more than you can imagine ... If you are asking from a moral stand point the I suggest that you just avoid that city....

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Long ago gambling wasn't in most places so you go there to drink, gamble and meet people to do things you can't do in your home town.
School teachers or others who would lose jobs if they acted up at home would go on vacation and let their hair down. Then go home and be good for another 50 weeks.
