I am Muslim and I though everything that is harmful is banned in Islam but G-d banned music and didn't ban smoking although the effects of smoking are much more dangerous that the effects of music.
How is that logical?

lavender, as far as I know, there is no verse in the Quran that bans smoking but there is one that bans music where music is described by the word "maazif"

In Islam cleanliness and hygiene are emphasized to the extent that it has been considered a part of Iman (faith). It is very well known that a smoker's mouth is unclean and foul smelling "like a cigarette ash-tray." Allah (SWT) says:

"And forbids them what is bad." The Qur'an, Surah Al-'Araf, 7: 157

"0 ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling are an abomination of Satan's handiwork. Eschew such abominations that ye may prosper."

Al Ma'idah, 5: 93

The word intoxicant has three meanings (6):

(1) To induce, especially the effect of ingested alcohol.

(2) To stimulate or excite.

(3)To poison.

Smoking is nothing but a form of slow suicide. The Qur'an says:

"And slay not the life which Allah hath forbidden..."
Surah, Al-Isra, 17: 33

"And make not your own hands contribute to your destruction." Surah, Al-Baqara, 2: 195

"Nor kill or destroy yourselves for verily Allah hath been to you most Merciful." Surah, An-Nisa, 4: 29

The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) has said:

"Nor be hurt or injure others." It is scientifically proven that the exhaled smoke of the smoker is hazardous to non-smokers around him

Body is polluted by smoking. Hence smokers cannot pray until they have cleansed themselves. According to the Qur'an:

"0 ye who believe! Draw not near unto prayer when you are drunken, till ye know that which ye utter, nor when you are polluted save when journeying upon the road, till you have bathed."

Surah, An-Nisa, 4: 43

The Christians consider the human body to be a sacred trust given to man by God because it contains the spirit breathed into it by God. Even the Qur'an says

"So,when I have made him and have breathed unto him of My spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him " Surah, Al-Hijr, 15: 29.

Hence the physical body should not be polluted or injured or destroyed in any way by smoking or taking of alcohol or any type of habit-forming drugs.

So now you know, that smoking IS indeed haram.
Hope I helped

In the Quran, like others on here say, there are verses that explain that we must not do anything that may have a harmful effect on our bodies or the bodies of others. Smoking obviously has no benefits and does nothing but harm the lungs as well as other parts of the body. So smoking IS haram.

Peace!

How do you know that tobacco use is actually allowed? If we take a deep look into tobacco use we will find that it has the potential to intoxicate the mind if taken in large amounts. This being said it is haraam to take anything which can intoxicate the mind in large amounts even if we only use a small amount..This is despite the fact that tobacco use has been linked with ill effects on the body..

Dawud book number 3678
The Apostle of Allah(PBUH) Forbade every intoxicant and everything which produces languidness.

Dawud book 26, number 3679:
Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) said; Every Intoxicant is forbidden; if a faraq of anything causes intoxication, a handful of it is forbidden.

Tobacco in large doses can cause hallucinogenic results and nicotine is a psychoactive drug.

Constituents of tobacco smoke;
Acetaldehyde, Acetone, Acrolein, Acrylonitrile and methyl acrylate, Ammonia, Benzene, Benzo[a]pyrene, Bicyclohexyl, Crotonaldehyde, Cyclopentane, Cyclohexane, Ethylamine, Dimethylamine, Formaldehyde, Furfural, Hydrazine, Hydrogen cyanide, Methylamine, Methyl chloride, Methylpyrazines and 2,5-dimethylpyrazine 2-, 3- and 4-Methylpyridines, 1-Methylpyrrolidine, Nicotine, Nitric oxide, Nitrogen dioxide, 2-Nitropropane, N-Nitrosamines, PAH, Propionaldehyde, Pyridine, Pyrrolidine, Tar, Trimethylamine, Urethane, Vinyl chloride

also one person above did mention that a fatwa was issued and from Saudi, this is correct but I was wondering if anyone knows who the Scholar was who issued the fatwa and if so was the fatwa only based on the harmful effects of tobacco use on the body?

Da-Man, you should be careful in using the Quran to answer any Question because brother you do not know if what your saying is what was actually meant by Allah(SWT)...
During the time of Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) there was not tobacco use. So, if in the Quran Allah(SWT) has said not to smoke then people would not know what it was.
There was fatwas issued in Saudi Arabia saying smoking is haraam because of health issues associated with smoking. So, a fatwa is issued when there are no clear verses in the Quran or any Hadiths which specifically tell you smoking is haraam...

Darkprince, Who is he? If you are talking about Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) you should give respect to him. If your speaking about Allah(SWT) do the same.. Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) said that anything which intoxicates the mind is haraam even in small amounts..He did not say anything about being addictive..

It's not, but there are certain conditions for listening to music, like for example they must not be erotic and awakening the feeling to go rape a girl instantly or become extremely horny that ur ready to sleep with the girl u love and ur not married to her yet, all other types like religious, social, battle, helping in getting excited while playing a game (like the muse of S4 League online game which talks all the time about S4 and tells u to shoot hard and kick *** harder etc) and music that talks about life in general. We actually used music in the old wars like drums and war songs to keep the warriors enthusiastic and eager to fight. Also, the only reason some Muslims prefer not to listen to any type of music and consider it forbidden is when the Islamic religion was young, the Persian king sent a group of charming Persian ladies with very attractive garments singing and dancing front of Islamic men and inviting themselves to public places where Muslims gather, singing with songs calling Muslims to convert and bow before the might of Persia and offering everything in return (sex, money, gardens etc) and for that many Muslims became..well, alegric to music, but its ok to listen to most of it. UPDATE: also prophet Mohammed (pbuh) ordered that in marriage festivals music, specially using drums with bare hands and singing, should be used as a part of the festival and declaration of the marriage to all public.

Although it does not specifically say anything about smoking in the Quran, it has clearly been stated that anything harmful to our bodies is haram (such as alcohol) therefore, smoking is haram too.

Salaam Alaykum,
In the days of the Prophet PBUH...big tobacco coompanies did not exist...however it is and can be classified as a mood or mind altering drug and that is haram.. many Muslim's smoke and don't think it is but I do because nicotine is a drug and the levels and concentrations of it are so highly addictive
in modern times. Scholars can argue but I believe it is a drug and is haram because it kills you.
Wasalaam
