i bought an HD tv ( Proscan : 19LA20Q), a ps3(80 gb version), and HD cables for my ps3. It works but i can only get 480i. On the box of my cables it say i can get 1080p. Is it my tv, my cables, my ps3 or is it the game im using?

p.s. the game im using is Resistance: Fall Of Man.

thx a lot whoever answers this!

The highest resoultion that can be played on Resistance Fall of Man is 720p. The highest resolution that can be played on a game is on the back of the game case.

I think that it might be your T.V. though. Your HDTV has to be able to play 1080p even if your HDMI cables can give you a 1080p picture. So basically without a HDTV that can give you 1080p picture, you cannot play your PS3 games in 1080p even if you have a HDMI cable.

Also you might need to set up the cables that you are using under Display Settings. Once you click on Display settings go to Video Output settings and select the right cables that you are using with your PS3 and go through the set up. After you do this, your T.V. should be displayed in a higher format.

The PS3 is the only system that can do TRUE 1080p. Don't listen to those 360 fan boys they don't know anything.
The Ps3 has HDMI 1.3 and the 360 slapped on a 1.2.
The 360 cant even play in 1080p its max out put is 1080i but then they "up convert it to 1080p" which is BS. I don't know how people can stand being lied to. I was looking at Armored Core 4 and on the 360 it says 1080p and the ps3's 720p.
How can it be 1080p when the system can only reach 1080i?
Its like those crapy DVD players that say "hey we up-convert to 1080i or 1080p" lol ya right when they start with a 480i.
Anyways you just need to change the settings and remember that you can only get true 1080p from high quality 1.3 hdmi cords.

One last thing to all the 360 people
THE 360 CANT DO 1080P!

Sorry but this is not an HD tv. It is an LCD tv but definitely not HD. When you get an HD TV be aware that they come in different resolutions. To get a HD picture from your PS3 you need a TV with a 1080p resolution and is hdcp compliant. Good luck on your next purchase.

to respond to your question, the HD is an abbreviation for no longer ordinary stress. with reference to the adaptation in machines and value, it comes right down to in spite of if or no longer you prefer to play PS2 video games on your PS3. There are countless distinctive fashions of the PS3 with no longer ordinary stress area beginning from 20GB to 160GB. while you're desirous to play PS2 video games, you will prefer one among 3 distinctive console fashions. the unique 60GB fashions have complete PS2 backwards compatibility as they have the "emotion" chip from the unique PS2s hardwired into them. That little chip makes those machines very uncommon and not ordinary to get your arms onto. the different 2 fashions that play PS2 video games are the 20GB and the 80GB that became bundled with metallic kit good 4. the two the 20GB and the MGS4 80GB have been launched with a utility-based emulator that granted approximately 40% backwards compatibility with PS2 video games. because of the fact this compatibility is utility based, and not hardware because it became interior the 60GB, the PS2 video games will play slightly slower and could no longer artwork in any respect. presently after the 80GB MGS4 equipment deal got here out, Sony launched a 40GB sort that became plenty extra fee-effective. although, they made this achieveable by applying eliminating all backwards compatibility and function no longer because of the fact that secure it with any of their structures. the two structures presently being produced are the 80GB with out MGS4 and the 160GB sort that comes bundled with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. i'm hoping i've got been waiting to help answer your questions. in case you ought to any extent further, i'd be satisfied to help.
