heres how I see it.
imagine "Truth" like an enormous gem-ish jigsaw puzzle, now any one person's perspective is a "picture" of this gem from a specific perspective. ... now, any one perspective, is only the gem's "image" from that perspective, and theres no guarantee that this "image" is even of the whole gem... it might be only a little tiny section of it, or a band, or in black and white, or whatever else. no single perspective can accurately "capture" the ENTIRE gem/puzzle in all its detail and such. no matter how perfect it is, it will have flaws and imperfections and things left out. its just too complex and big.
now, in addition to this, the "picture" from each perspective (a religion, culture, individual, family, whatever, each of these sort of categories would have their own "perspective" of some scale) has the potential to have distortions, imperfections, inaccuracys, ect. people being taught something, but misunderstanding it, and passing that misunderstanding on, or even deliberately adding stuff that is inaccurate, from their own agendas, ect. all these things.
so from this, we can imagine the core perfect puzzle piece image of the gem, as a shard of crystal... this crystal may be clean and presented accurately.. but more likely, it may be distorted, bent, and warped, on top of a bed of crap, or buried under a pile of nonsense, or any combination of the above. ... so to discern the truth of it, you have to wash away all the junk, and un-distort the fragment from the clump of "stuff".. when all the distortion has been un-done, all the junk and dirt and falsehood cleaned away, then you have a clean puzzle piece.
then the trick is to find the spot in the greater image where it fits, and how it interacts with others.
if you can find as many puzzle pieces as you can, and fit them together, then you'll have a massively better view of the picture.

This is exactly what I do as a Pagan. I'm not of any recognized Pagan tradition; I've found elements from many Pagan beliefs that I find valid, and which form part of my path. I'm sure that my vast range of ideas are unlike anyone else's but I also know that they are what I truly believe; I am not trying to fit myself into ideas that I can never wholly embrace.

Yes, Joel Osteen has done this: Christianity+ Spiritualist + Astronomy + Naturalist + Grab Bag and put it in a message packeged to look like Christianity and has a lot of followers for it. Seems to be popular if you want to get rich preaching.

Do you currently mean in the question above defining the scriptural old testament as the law of Moses not Genesis-Malachi? I believe it is God's way, and makes more 'common sense' also.

I believe each religion holds a piece to a puzzle that if we only were wise enough to figure it out - all would make sense and the answer to it all would be before us.

i like to pick and choose. a lot of religions have things that resonate with me on a spiritual level. everyone's path is different, so it's not possible for one religion to hold all the truth.
