Pre-marital sex is not wrong according to the Bible.

In Exodus, chapter 20, we read the Ten Commandments, and are told that we should not commit adultery. Adultery however is not defined as simply having sex outside of marriage. It's defined as having sex with a married person. Nothing is said to prohibit sexual relations between two unmarried people. In fact, if we look in the book of Leviticus, we are given a list of every situation in which we should not have sex. We're not to have sex with married people, or with family members, or with animals. We are not, however, prohibited from having sex with an unmarried person who is not in our family.

Some places in the bible, such as Mark 7:21, state that "fornication" is a sin. Christians like to interpret that as meaning "sex outside of marriage." It's not true. The Greek translation identifies "fornication" as being any "illicit (illegal) sexual activity." However, as we saw above, God did not mention sex between two unmarried people as being illicit.

1. Pre-marital sex is often called (in English currently) fornication.
2. the scriptures and the Bible are not the same currently. That 'difference(s)' are some of the things dividing Christianity worldwide; to God's disgust!!!
3. There are 'authorizations for it, but that is another matter presently.

Adultery is having sex with somebody who is not your spouse. Pre-marital sex is a technically fornication, which is a sort of subset of adultery. In the Bible, there is clear evidence that fornication is forbidden. Go to your favorite Bible on line and search for "fornication," and you will see for yourself.

People who think they can justify pre-marital sex as "not forbidden" are just kidding themselves.

Besides, you never know when it's pre-marital sex (meaning you marry the person later) or just lustful, illicit sex (which is what is usually is, since most relationships that involve sex without marriage fail before the marriage ever takes place).

I believe that God was not only speaking of committing adultery in the Ten Commandments, but anything like unto committing adultery and it spoke to those couples not married. what makes it right for two single people to sleep together, and someone who is married sleep with a single person? I think that the same principle applies to both married and single people. Acts 15:20 (Kings James) says specifically to stay away from fornication...
1st Corinthians 10:8 also says abstinence is necessary until marriage
I mean, keeping yourself until you are married is a virtue, and then when you finally have the opportunity it's a gift- it shows your sweethart that you really do love them by waiting for them. just check out Proverbs 31:10 if you already haven't.

Here are some of the verses that apply:

A. Exodus 22:16-17 (NIV) - Premarital Relations

“16 If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife. 17 If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he must still pay the bride-price for virgins.”

If it did not matter, then why compel people to get married for having sexual relations? The Bible regards the marital relationship as very important, Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:15; Ephesians 5:31 (the two will become one flesh), even when the physical relationship does not involve a lawful marriage. 1 Corinthians 6:16 (union with a prostitute). God considers people who have had sexual relations to be united and therefore should be married.

B. Deuteronomy 22:13-21 (NIV) - Divorce and Consequences of Concealing Premarital Relations

“13 If a man takes a wife and, after lying with her, dislikes her 14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,” 15 then the girl’s father and mother shall bring proof that she was a virgin to the town elders at the gate. 16 The girl’s father will say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. 17 Now he has slandered her and said, ‘I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.’ But here is the proof of my daughter’s virginity.” Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town, 18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him. 19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the girl’s father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives. 20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.”

Once married, if the husband accuses his previously unmarried wife of having sexual relations there will be consequences - either the husband will be proved wrong and found guilty of slander, a sin, Leviticus 19:16; Matthew 15:19, or, if true, the bride will be stoned, which is the same punishment as for adultery. She should have either married the man with whom she had sexual relations or, if she was engaged, then both she and the man are to be stoned. Deuteronomy 22:22-23.

The Hebrew word 'zanah' is translated as 'promiscuity' in the NIV, while it is rendered 'harlot' in the New American Standard:

זנה zânâh (zaw-naw')(Strong's No. 2181) - A primitive root (highly fed and therefore wanton); to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple forniciation, rarely of involuntary ravishment); figuratively to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah): - (cause to) commit fornication, X continually, X great, (be an, play the) harlot, (cause to be, play the) whore, (commit, fall to) whoredom, (cause to) go a-whoring, whorish.

In this case, if a woman had premarital sexual relations, she was no longer a virgin and could not marry another without penalty.

C. The New Testament regarding Sexual Propriety

In addition to the verses cited above, the New Testament warns believers to avoid sexual promiscuity (Strong's - cohabitation) and sensuality (Strong's - licentiousness or laciviousness), Romans 13:13 (NASB), fornication, 1 Corinthians 6:9 (NASB); and sexual immorality. 1 Thessalonians 4:5 (NASB).

Trust in Jesus and be obedient to God. Many Christians search the Bible in an effort to see how far they can go (legalism), rather than trying to find out how they can please God. Hebrews 11:6; Hebrews 13:16; 1 John 3:22; see also Romans 8:8 (those in the flesh cannot please God).

EDIT: Thanks to the other contributors for verses on a subject that is always timely, such as 1 Corinthians 7:1 (it is better for a man to not have sexual relations with a woman); Acts 15:10, 15:29 and 21:25; Matthew 15:19; 1 Corinthians 10:8, referring to Numbers 25:1-9; Hebrews 13:4; Revelation 21:8, and the definitions for fornication.

You will not find the words pre-marital sex in the Bible. However here are some verses to think about.

"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." (Ephesians 5:3)

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

"We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did--and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died." (1 Corinthians 10:8)

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." (Hebrews 13:4)

"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)

"Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion" (1 Corinthians 7:8-9)

"Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman [or, "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman," according to the NIV footnote]. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband." (1 Corinthians 7:1-2, KJV)

Definitions of fornication:

# "to have sex with someone who you are not married to" (Freesearch Dictionary)

# "Fornication: Sexual intercourse that is "illicit", outside of marriage." (Medical Dictionary)

# "fornication n. sexual intercourse between a man and woman who are not married to each other." (Law Dictionary)

# "consensual sexual intercourse between two persons not married to each other" (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary)

Yes. In fact, not only is pre-marital sex in the bible; but the punishment is death!

No kidding.

You can look it up!!!

First, notice how strongly the New Testament speaks out against sexual sins:

"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." (Ephesians 5:3)

The above passages tell us to flee from sexual immorality and not allow even a hint of sexual immorality in our lives. These are strong words, so it is important that we make the right decision about premarital sex.

Now notice some more ways that God condemns sexual immorality:

These passages say that the "sexually immoral" will not inherit the kingdom of God, but instead they will be judged and will be sent to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

St. Paul said that the Church will be presented to Christ as a pure virgin bride:

"I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him." (2 Corinthians 11:2)

This indicates that purity and virginity are highly valued before marriage in Scripture.

Premarital sex takes away that purity and virginity.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For those who have already lost that purity before marriage, God is willing to forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Nice and simple for you.
'It is well for a man not to touch a woman, yet, because of prevalence of fornication, let each man have his own WIFE and each woman have her own HUSBAND'
1st Corinthians 7:1-3
(Capital letters are mine) It's just to show that people should be married before having any kind of sex. Not with hands or anything.
