Make him stop!!!! I have two big tests at the University tomorrow and I really need to study. and with him, my sisters writing a new song in the room next door (which includes guitar, keyboard, and bongos), my brothers playing X-Box across the hall, the little kids screaming "Wake Up JEFF!!!!!" downstairs, and the yelling and jeers of my 12 yo bro and his friends outside as they show off skateboard tricks to each other (not to mention the stereo that's on), I can't concentrate. how can i get them to be quiet? i can't go to the library because it's too far to walk, and my car is in the shop, and I can't use my sisters' car because, well they don't let anyone drive it but each other, and my parents both have their cars out, and i'm not about to drive our 22 passenger bus (it's a big family, 20 of us altogether) to the library. I've tried yelling "everyone shut up" and that didn't do anything. HELP!!!!!!

take the bus anyway. and while you're out, get some earplugs. but hang tough, you'll get through it.

You poor thing. Dang. 20 of you? That must provide some unique challenges and benefits. I like the idea of going out into the bus to study. I wouldn't leave them alone, especially if you're the oldest by several years (you should probably be around to make sure nobody sets something on fire).

How old is your musician sister? Come to think of it, how old is the second-in-command so to speak? Go to him or her and explain your conundrum. If the next few are also in university, or are studying for university exams, or otherwise trying to get into university, they might understand. While it probably won't get you quiet, it might give you another set of brains to figure a place where you can find some (basement, attic, bomb shelter, panic room, neighbor's house).

If your parents have cell phones, drop one of them a line and explain the problem. Ask if it's okay if you leave the house. Beg a ride from a neighbor (barter), catch the bus, borrow a bike. In the future, consider staying on campus before big tests. If you don't live on campus, you might want to see if you can get a dorm next year. Believe it or not, in your case, it might be quieter. Good luck on your exams and congratulations on pursuing higher education! It can be a tough ride, but it's definitely worthwhile.

I'd take the big car anyway, if that's the only way to get out.

Call your parents and tell them you need to concentrate and tell them to tell all the kids to keep it down and let you study.

Invest in a great pair of earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.
