Good question! It really comes down to safety, doesn't it? If you get too close to the drunk driver, you run the risk of being in a collision with the drunk, on the other hand, the drunk just might crash into something or someone else.
I say if you can maintain a safe enough distance, call 911 and give as many details as possible like what kind of car, how many people in the car, color of car, direction, what street or highway, etc. If you can get the license number, that's a bonus.
Just don't risk your own safety.

Really good question. I am a school bus driver and last night I saw a truck weave in and out of traffic. Luckily the highway I was on had a stop light(as odd as that seems there is a stop light on that one), and I was able to get close enough to find out the make and model of the truck and get the license plate.
I called into dispatch and had them call the police since I cannot drive and talk on my cell phone at the same time.
Here is my thought on it all, it is your civil responsibility to you and other drivers on the road to report drunk drivers. If you can do it safely then do it. You are saving someone's life by doing so.

You are most likely to be saving a life, not just somebody elses, but your own too.
Bc, he could just stop randomly and cause you to reck into his car...
You should get the plate number and call 911.
Not just for yourself, but for others and the drunk.
You never know what company the drunk could have in the car with them. You don't even know if they are swerving bc they are drunk!!!
They could have kidnapped somebody and the person is trying to grab the wheel just to get attention from others so, that they will call police!!!
You should always call 911, no matter what it most looks like, you never know what else it could be and the cause of it. Be careful out there, Love and take care.

The very thing happened to me today. There was an aggressive driver on the freeway who cut me off REALLY CLOSE, and then got angry with me for apparently being there, and proceeded to try and run me into the center divider and try and get me to crash. She was splitting lanes and driving with no regard for human life. I never drive and use my cell phone, but I immediately called the highway patrol and gave a detailed description of her vehicle and her personalized license plate. I told them she is possibly drunk, but either way a definite threat on the road. They told me they'd send someone out immediately. I couldn't live with myself if I ignored it and heard on the news later that the lunatic killed a family or something.

I will report anybody... I have reported my sister for drinking and driving. To me I don't care who it is I will report them. Being a truck driver I have seen too many accidents caused by these idiots. It make me sick to see people get a way with this.
*The punishment for the first offense should be at least $1,500 and get their license suspended for at least 1 year.
*Second offense the fine should be $3,000 and 2 year suspension
*And the third offense they should lose their license for life....

GET THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER, CALL 911 AND FOLLOW THE PERSON AT A VERY SAFE DISTANCE AWAY FROM THEM JUST IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS, THIS WAY YOU MIGHT JUST SAVE SOMEONE OR AT LEAST BE A WITNESS WHEN THE POLICE ARREST THE DRUNK.

I frequently report drunk or incapacitated drivers by calling 911. If everyone did this, there would be a lot fewer deaths caused by drunk drivers!

Report him most states have a cell number posted to do just that. It's easier than driving up to an accident you could have prevented.

If he/she isn't swirving too bad and that he's not speeding too much than I'll get his license. If it's safe, basically. I'm not going to endanger my passengers. If not I'd still report it to the State Patrol with the mile marker or nearest exit, color and make of the model.
