The onlky way to deal with this situation is to tell him the honest truth when he does ask you out. Let him know that he is a great friend to you and you don't want to loose him as a friend but dating would ruin that, expecially if soemthing terrible were tog o wrong, like the relationship not work out. And you don't want that, once you take a friendship to the next level... you can NEVER go back. Trust me.

approach him before he asks you out!
if you are good enough friends he'll understand. tell him that you love him as a friend and that you hope that you guys can still be as close. afterwards it might be sorta awkward but dont let it be awk. treat him the way you always have!

Something like this has just recently happend to me. If you only see him as a friend, you need to tell him that. Tell him how you feel,a nd you only see him as a friend. He may be mad at you, but its better to tell the truth and to be straight up forward.
Good Luck!

Then, make sure that you don't accept going out as a date, make sure you tell him how you feel about it, and don't give him mixed signals, or else he could get hurt.
