Any fish is edible as long as you cook it. Blowfish are not necessarily edible though. You can die from eating it if you eat the wrong parts.

Most fish is edible if it hasn't been in contaminated/polluted water. Some fish are safe to eat, but will taste real nasty and make you wish you didn't eat it.
Be sure to check and find out for sure if they species you catch is safe to eat, there are a few out in the ocean that are poisonous.

Your state enviromental department releases information on eatable fish. Just search for your state's Department of Environmental Conversation Department (DEC in New York), they have all the information you need.

Go to wherever you bought your license, and they will give you a book (free with license) that will describe types of fish, and locations. It will tell you the fish, and the number recommended to consume.
